I ordered one of these shelters from Tchibo sunshade. It came within a week and waas sent from Germany, although they said it could be up to 2 weeks.

It is huge and I don't know if it will fit on our pitch at Tregarton - where we are going in 2 weeks for 2 weeks!

But it gives loads of shade and we are keeping it in case this heatwave lasts till then!

Just to update, I went to Decathlon at Stockport today and got one of their tarps, the assistant there was very helpful and we tried it out in the shop first! It is quite big and looks to be very good value and similar to the Outwell Tarp (which I saw at Go Outdoors later).

The brand is Quechua - does anyone know if this is Decathlon's own brand as they have a lot of this range? Once put up it is pretty high, the poles come in 4 pieces each (I think), I don't know whether you can leave a section out and make it shorter? It is definitely tall enough to cook under, we'll be trying this as I'm trying it out this weekend so will let you know how we get on.

Hi free range.

Could I use this with a Vango venture 500 to cook under in windy conditions. Would I secure it to the tent or use it completely seperately

Our Indiana already has a porch area, so we've not used it aginast that, but one of the things I like about it is how versatile it is. You could, for example, pitch it with the poles on 2 diagonally opposite corners & have another corner over the top of your tent.

Hi again,

freerange, thanks for the photo and for pointing me in the direction of this excellent piece of kit!

Another update, we used the Decathlon tarp at Hollingworth Lake Camp Site (Littleborough near Rochdale) at the weekend and it was brilliant. We took our small Vango tent so the tarp provided some shelter from the sun during the day. It is much better quality than I expected for the money and I am very pleased.

We went with friends and they were very amused (and took the mick!) when they saw me setting it up as we were only there for one night. Later on that night we were unlucky with the weather which took a turn for the worse, the rain was lashing it down but all 7 of us managed to crowd under the tarp which kept us dry. It was also very windy but the tarp stayed up fine. We still had a good time and it saved our night. Needless to say, my friends changed their minds and now all think the tarp is the best thing since sliced bread!

I would say that 4 or 5 people could comfortably sit under it with room to spare, we were a little cramped with 7 and a dog although it was still manageable. We also put a small windbreak in the direction of the prevailing wind which stopped the rain blowing under the tarp.

Pack size is very small, yet the area provided is similar to a gazebo - I now think our Gazebo will be left at home as the tarp is much easier to put up and better in the rain due to the sloping sides.

If you are thinking of buying this don't hesitate, it's a great piece of kit and a bargain to boot.

I'm a bit confused as the on in freerange's photo doesn't look the same as one of the Decathlon website i.e. not rectangular. Interesting, it becomes more confusing if you look at  all the quecha web site images

http://www.quechua.com/EN/Product_arborescence/mountain/hiking/hiking-equipmen/outdoor-shelter/product_2363223/index.html

Also, anyone know if the tchibo products are waterproof?

Rik
