hi all, going on a weeks camp trip end of august and i cant wait i have most of what i need but i need a new chair. i recently came back from a weekend trip and noticed the chair i had is breaking :( anyway sounds simple you say but prob is i am a big bloke im 6,3 and about 22 stone. soooo i need a chair thats strong also has to fold up i have been using one of them ones that fold up into a bag. with the metal cross frame under neath but this one is now breaking after lots of use.

soo can anyone recomend a comfy chair that folds up and is very strong :D not to bothered about design just want comfy lol and not an astronomical price.

My hubby has got one of the fold up chairs in the bag.  it's called a "big boy" and was just under £10.00 from asda.  It's designed for the larger person and hubby is very impressed.

I'm 6ft and a 'larger lady' and also have a big-boy chair - you can get from other places apart from ASDA but they seem to be cheapest. It really is very sturdy. For the price, I would say to give it a try.

Hi we have director style chairs from tesco, they fold, are very strong and high seat to ground depth, I love mine.

Not the cheapest option but very comfortable, really because there is no sag in the seat and it's higher than the usual fold-up chair.  If you are tall / large you will be very uncomfortable if the base of your spine is below your knees.

We dumped up all the chairs in bags and got some like these.  Outwell club deluxe.  You may find other makes with a similar style and they will probably be just as good.   When camping with friends we find they bring their own chairs over in the evenings and then sit on ours!

I'm built for comfort instead of speed too & we bought some folding chairs from Lidls, they're brilliant & cost £14.99 I think. Ask at your local store if they know how you can find out when they're coming in. If your luck is like mine, it'll be the week after your holiday but when they're in I strongly advise you go & try them. Nice & big & comfy.

I'll happily second Zorro's recommendation of the Outwell chairs. We got some of these recently and are very pleased with them. Once you've tried these you won't want to sit in the more common type of folding chair for very long. They do take up a bit more space when packing though.

Have a wander into your local fishing tackle dealers, they do some lovely comfortable chairs which fold flat and are very robust. Some are very reasonably priced and very well made, including padded seat & back and adjustable leg length, for uneven ground. Makes to look out for are Fox, Nash, JRC and Chub...

The only problem with the director style chairs is, if you are a big lad (like wot I is ) they are uncomfortable as they are not wide enough, and you can't get your bum in!!

As Andy says, have a look at some anglers chairs/recliners. My recliner cost £50 and folds flat for transporting. Ok it's very heavy but it's made from square section steel with bolted joints and even though it's used most weekends (if I ain't camping then I'm fishing!) it will last for years and years.

On the other hand, my missus recently paid £40 for a garden lounger/recliner type chair that when folded takes up far more space than my chair. Looking at the materials used (thin tubular steel, poxy little rivetted joints) I'll bet it won't last more than a couple of years.

OH and I both have the same problem. We do have some big enough shairs but find that they catch us across the backs of legs so will give the outwell ones a go.
