What's the best thing to light a large tent with? I have EHU and there's a light hanger in my Norfolk Lake tent. Would making my own just using a bayonet fitting like you have in your house be the best option. What do other people use? I already have a rechargeable lantern for use outside but could do with something brighter in the tent.

Thanks for any help.

Nick

The DIY method you use wouldn't be safe at all, given the amount of condensation that can build up inside of a tent. We use a sealed inspection type flourescent lamp from Halfords.

It's a cotton tent isn't it? I've bought a simple little light fitting which clips onto a pole or a table leg, cost £2 & available in most bargain stores. Use an energy saver bulb to cut down on the heat output.

I use a garage/loft, 9w. 'flourescent tube' lead light. It's waterproof, has a hook to enable you to hang it from the roof of your tent, gives out plenty of light, has a nice long lead and it was cheap (less than a tenner)... I think you'll get a similar light, from any of the big D.I.Y. stores...

Thanks everyone. I'll go and have a look down B&Q later and see what they have. Better safe than sorry so i'll get a proper one rather than do it myself.

Thanks

Nick

If you have no luck down B&Q, best light i ever got was the Niteplam field Lamp. Its a small lamp that produces loads of light. A bit more expensive than some lamps, but you definately get what you pay for!

We have the colorado 600dlx which has a large living space & we use 2 x of the hanging strip lights as seen in the argos catlogue (although from b&q). We hang them from the bedroom pod elstic hangers & they light the tent up nicely. Very safe also as are sealed and do not give off any heat.

We've just bought a rechargeable lantern from Woolworths (£14.99 - half price at the mo) as recommended in a couple of posts on this site.  The light is bright.  Have tried it at home and tomorrow it will be lighting our tent.

We use a fluoresent light (the overhead type used when working on cars) bought from Halfords.

No problems about overheating and it gives off a good light also.

we have a kyham brekenridge which is quite large and we use 3 large led lights in it purely cos I like alot of light - 2 is ample but I saw 1 going half price at a sale with no box and got it for £3 - so it had to be bought !...

I have 1 hanging above in the main section which is great, another in the big canopy bit (which is now the kitchen) and the 3rd one on a table outside which is magic at night...and I know they are battery powered but I have yet to change the batterys in them yet !

Take one of these, add one of these, screw one of these into the back, add on 3 or 4 metres of this with one of these on the end...and you have the lightweight, waterproof low wattage light that lights the inside of our Montana 6 perfectly.

Wilkos sell all the bits by the way, cheaper than Screwfix. Total cost about £9.00
