We've had our Sibir 3 way fridge a year and its been fantastic, worked brilliant off gas on all our camping trips until last week. We have it running at home on 240 to store our booze then last weekend took it with us camping, ran it off gas and it stopped working . We read the instructions, supposedly turn it upside down for a short time we did this but still no joy, we got home plugged it back onto mains electric an its been fine. It's obviously not working anymore on gas. Anyone had this problem and if so how did you cure it?

Extreme heat last week was the problem with mine.   It couldnt cope during the day.   During the night it was fine.   Do NOT give up on the gas.   Try it at home on the gas.   I think it should be fine.

I obviously note it is some time since you posted your message. We have a Sibir with exactly the same problems and like you also tried turning it upside down. I was wondering if you ever found a cure and got it working on gas again?

We have a Dometic/Electrolux  3 way fridge and used it fine off gas last summer and have used it various times at home and away since on electric. Went back to using it on gas this weekend and the pilot light went out twice in the first 24 hours for no apparent reason, which worried me quite a lot. However, it relit easy enough both times and after that it ran fine on the gas for the rest of the three days we were there.

Anyone else had similar problems or can come up with a reason why this happened? MT

Turn it upside down for a few hrs - to let refrigerant run back down from the roof.

OR...

Probably soot on the pilot light (clean with compressed air) 

OR...

the thermal coupler (that long metal wire) is probably on its way out, which means you have to hold down the button longer.

OR...

They also have to be perfectly level to function in gas mode - i.e. getting a wooden platform level (with a spirit level) and then dumping the fridge on that.

Hi S and C. Can't believe it's well over a year since I was talking about our fridge but anyway not used it on gas til 4 weeks ago when we went to France and it worked brilliantly for 10 days. We know what the problem was which is you have to allow plenty of ventilation running throgh the rear of the fridge when it's used in hot weather.

Thanks for your reply. I have just finished trying it with all three power sources and it worked fine. I think the problem was that it was not level and as discussed in various threads, this can cause the problem. What threw me was that our other fridge, a Combicool, did work. (Yes, we have two, one for essentials and one for food!) Thinking back now while we were packing up and moved the Combicool into a couple different positions it's performance altered from not working depending on how level it was.

it need lots of cool air over the back fins , we retrofitted it with a 12v fan .

Happy you've sorted the problem S and C. Hopefully ours will keep on working for a lot longer but if not we'll defiantly buy another one as we would not do without.
