Right then - we all know one of the worst things about camping is getting cold and STAYING cold and to this end, Emmy and I both have 4-seasons sleeping bags. However, I hate getting wrapped up and twisted in mine (which I always seem to manage somehow) and I'm toying with the idea of risking a quilt this weekend. We have a Coleman dual chamber blow up bed and sleep on this with a feather quilt between us and the mattress. We also have a 15 tog feather quilt which I bought for home last winter and to be honest, it was too warm for us to use at home - I think we used it twice and ended up kicking it off us both times! Do you think the two quilts together (with us in the middle) will make for a cozy night - or am I best using our tried and trusted method....?

Hi emgin, although you will see we now have a caravan, we used to have a tent then trailer tent, I always used duvets when camping, albeit we only ever went May - end of sept, we where always warm, and yes I agree sleeping bags just get twisted up, then you cant just throw one leg out for a bit of cool air, as us women somtimes need to do.

Ahhhh - the great sleeping bag/duvet debate!!!  It's a very personal thing - ScampisOH and I have tried both - love the huge double (well - king size, really) sleeping bag, hate the duvet!  Each to their own - you really won't know unless you try.

must admit that i hate the sleeping bags also they are far to confining i always feel like i am stuck and i hate the cold zip in the night thing. always take the duvet love it to bits i like pulling it up over my ears and its so cosy and warm and you can still move

used to have a tent now have a caravan, when in the tent if sleeping 2 together used a quilt, more than adequate, however always used quilts for the young ones, easy for them to keep warm, get comfy and keep (bedroom) tidy!!!

we don't even use a mattress.A couple of years back our mattress died in the night so we slept on a quilt in our sleeping bags and had the most comfortable night ever loads of space to move around. Now we sleep ona thick 15 tog quilt two opened up sleeping bags on top then cover ourselves with a duvet.We have never been cold and if its too warm you can always kick the quilt off . It suits us cos even at home our mattress is really firm, but i realise it wouldn't suit everyone

I always take duvets for that bit of home snuggly comfort, we just use vacuum bags and they hardly take up any room, you can then use your airbed pump on deflate to suck the air out when you are packing to come home to! duvets win every time for me!!

we use a 13.5 tog quilt for camping with a 4.5 tog underneath us. We have always been nice and toastie
