Hello.

I know this has been covered before...but it seams the more I read the more confused I become!

I'm wanting a heater that would warm my full awning. I looked at this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150020285906&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=005 But If it works on heating the object rather that the surrounding air, it may not give the heat I'm wanting.Then I looked as at gas ones (good because I don't want to trip the electrics,) but then I read that gas isn't really the best option (and as I've got kids and dogs in the awning...not really safe) and electric fan heaters are 'dry' heat....a lot better in a canvas awning/tent. But I'd be worried about tripping the site electrics!

Any help would be greatfully received because MY HEAD HURTS!

Hi, we have a Folding Camper and have used a fan heater to heat both the unit and the awning very successfully. We have a Challenge upright fan heater (a little noisy but only a tenner from Argos) with a 2.4KW output. Have never had any problems with tripping the site electrics. As long as you are careful and dont have to many electrical items switched on together you shouldnt have any problems using a fan heater.

I have read of others who wear by a low wattage oil filled radiator.

You will find divide opinions on this forum about the best / most effective / cheapest way of heating a tent / awning, ultimately you will have to make your mind up as to what suits your own situation.

We use a Colman Blackcat Gas Heater in the awning and a fan heater in the folding Camper, I used this in April and it was very warm

We have one of these here gives a nice glow too!

We have used a fan heater in the tent so pretty similar I would guess.

used to have a patio heater but with having kids and dog its a bit dangerous

We use a Glen electric fan heater for the awning.  Being only just over 4 inches high, it cannot be knocked over.  It has 3 setting: blown air /1kW / 2kW.  There is a thermostatic control but we set this at nearly maximum.  We find it efficient and it takes up very little space.

As with all van mains electrics, you have to balance the load so as not to trip the EHU circuit breaker.

If you go for a Halogen heater, shop around, the price ranges from £7-£30, depending where you buy them, and they're all basically the same. 3 settings: 400w/800w/1200w so you won't blow the fuse.
