Hi all.....

I know this may sound a stupid question but can i use the regulator and gas from a gas barbecue I was given,  on a camping cooker I've had in the loft for 20 years, now the kids are a little older we are discovering the joys of camping and was hoping to save money on equipment ,the gas bottle says maxi gas on it and is 7kg's, does it come in smaller bottles?......thanx.....

you can but if you run out most campsites only stock calor and c/gaz ,best if you want to stay current is go to calor ,dont pay those high prices to "hire" a new cylinder just go to your local dump and buy a calor cylinder from there (usually a fiver or so) but bear in mind that the 4.5kg has a different regulator fitting to the larger one
we use the 4.5kg its a nice size for packing in the car ,the regulator is another fiver the refill £14.
you can ofcourse use the calor 4.5kg on the barbi thus dual use by putting on the 4.5kg regulator.
note it will be money well spent buying new gas tube for both the old cooker and barbi and it ensures the old pipe hasent perished.pipe available from camping shops.
carefully cut off old gas tubing put a bit of soap on cooker/barbi fitting and push on new pipe ,use new jubilee clips repeat on regulator and you and your kids will be safe knowing all the perishable bits have been replaced.

easyest way to fit new pipes is soak end in hot water for a few sec and slip on.

ill second that

leave the soap out it will make it easier to slip on but in the same way it will help it come off again
