Ive got this chair, its made of aluminium but is really sturdy and its good for my back as I have problems as well, its had 16 stone in it with no problems, camperlands sell them so maybe you could ring them as there very helpfull and they maybe able to tell you what weight it can stand. They also do mail order.
aviod the normal foldy aluminiun ones though as we had two hilariously smashed by someone we were caming with when he leaned back on them .Still makes me laugh now thinking about it lol

Yeah hilarious....
Unless of course its you thats doing the chair breaking...
Wotcha Graeme - one of our bestest chums is a chap of similar proportions to your good self, and with a back problem too. He has recently purchased one of these and whilst it was a lot more than the usual run-of-the-mill camping chairs it is roomy and sturdy and has an optional foot rest which is sold separately.
As self confessed bloater I too searched for a suitable chair ended up importing one of these..not the cheapest solution but as we import autos from the USA we got it thrown into the trunk of a Caddy...I am sure one can be obtained over here...just make sure its the big un!
BB chairs at Asda are s##t for the "big boys". I picked up a chair from QVC outlet store, supposed to carry up to 300lbs but the metal fastening around the arms have come undone and Im only 238lbs (15lbs lighter than I was 3 months ago). Not sure of any other stockist but Ive got email address somewhere. I'll post when I find (got to email them about these fastening - appear to be decorative only but bettre make sure)

------------- It'll work out in the end!!!!
I didn't do it !! Nobody saw me do it !! You can't prove anything !!
Both oh and I know where you're coming from on this thread Graeme we are trying to find some decent chairs too. The usual fold up ones with cup holders just sink under the weight and we got some more substantial ones which are plenty strong enough but cut into the backs of my fat thighs and your backside sinks in so low that it makes it such an effort to get up from them.Lafuma chairs look great but the price doesn't! We are now looking at aluminium director styles with tables on side as they are more upright. So I shall follow this thread with interest
