Please help, i am going camping with my 3 kids and a couple of friends and their kids, we have never been before, therefore i havent got a clue. my main concern is keeping warm and dry. will i be ok to use my duvet over our sleeping bags or will it be very damp. we are camping for 2 nights .
we went in may and it was quite cold. (about 2degrees on the coldest night) we just had our sleeping bags but the kids had their duvets as well. we put picnic blankets on top of the airbeds and blankets under them to stop any cold/condensation. i also dressed them in pj's, t-shirts, socks and vests. my daughter put her coat over her in the night but the boys were too hot.
What are you sleeping on ? do you have blow up matresses or camp beds?
There is quite a few links regarding this subject and generally if you are sleeping on blow up matresses, then lay a picnic rug under the matress and lay your duvet on top of the matress. Then, snuggle away in your sleeping bags.
Myself and my OH use two camp beds together with a double blow-up matress on top. It is almost the same as sleeping on your normal bed.
I am not a fan of sleeping bags as I like to kick my legs out! I have an air bed and dont bother putting anything underneath it (thats what the groundsheet is for) I do however put an open sleeping bag under a fitted sheet to lay on, with my double 13.5tog quilt to lay under. I use this tog even in the height of summer. Its very cosy and warm, even in the foulest of weathers and never a hint of damp. Whatever you choose, have a great trip.
been camping for few times now. I just have duvet no sleeping bacg no blankets under air bed and just my t-shirt and boxers, always been snug as a bug!!
We put a blanket under the blowup air bed, another blanket ontop of the bed, a continental quilt ontop of the blanket, lay on top of that and then put another continental quilt on top of ourselves. If it is really cold we a ahot water bottle !!
PS Forgot to mention the candlewick bedspread for the finishing touch ! It drapes nicely over everything else and keeps the draught off our backs when we turn over. I think I have mentioned every thing now !!

I am new to camping myself just having come back from our first ever family camping trip. My two children had ready beds which were excellent, the wife and I had a blow-up mattress with a sheet and duvet. I also placed a piece of old carpet on top of the ground sheet for added protection and a bit more heat. Take some spare blankets just in case.
