Why are convex mirrors so difficult to buy. I have a flat one with elastic straps which clips over my door mirror, but vision is quite limited and I would prefer a convex one. Given that car mirrors are convex, why are the majority of towing mirrors flat?

Hi baileyman, reckon its to do with perspective, a convex mirror would make your outfit seem too far off making for poor judgement on manouvering, overtaking etc, wheras if you fitted a concave mirror,,,your outfit would resemble a full sized squash court.

It is recommended that you have a flat mirror on the off side and a convex mirror on the near side.  This of course is for UK use.

Just remember Convex makes things look a lot further away than it really is so be careful

Thanks for the opinions.I think I may be misunderstood.

The type of mirror I would like is convex like a car door mirror, as I said in my original post. All car door mirrors nearside and offside are convex - I have never seen a flat one. That is what I mean by convex not one that distorts the view.
