Dear All,

Advice please.   I am interested in replacing my standard hexaganol gazeebo with a new pop up type.   However, I have been told by one source that they are not particularly good in that if it is windy the whole thing will break.   I intend to have the ones complete with sides.   Argos is certainly a consideration.   Could anybody please advise me if:

a.   They hold up if it is windy (I am talking slight wind not gales) and;

b.   Which type are recommended lightweight or steel frame.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Dear David,

We use it when caravanning.   This is only when we van at dog shows and use it for shade/protection for the dogs.

A couple we met on holiday (hi John and Jackie) had a pop up gazebo from B&Q. It looked really sturdy with holes in the feet for securing and adjustable canvas to tension.

He picked it up for £25 last year in the end of season sale. Why don't I ever see bargains like that?

Cheers

Paul

We have both the Argos, nice and cheap, and a a rather more expensive Caravan type, a lot heavier, at my work. Well you have to be outside on warm days!!

The Argos type will take off in a strong wind unless tied down well, and is only showerproof. The Caravan type being a lot heavier will stand up to a higher wind and is waterproof but see those thunder storms, disaster. the water collected in the top. I had to go out with a brush stand underneath and push the water out, Just the thing when it lightening

I had a pop up gaezbo - waster of money.  The aluminium frames are very flimsy and a bit of wind and the whole thing can buckle and bend.  Chucked ours in the bin.

We have a double one its used for car shows and camping as a meeting area, we paid £100 its a very strong one, I do think its better to shop round and have a good look some are very cheap and nasty. To secure ours we use 6 rachet straps and 6 dog screws, we dont fasten the straps to the out side of the gazabo on the loops, put round them frame.Never had a problem with wind but ifs its very windy we dont put the sides on.

We've got one which I bought about 3 years ago from a home catalogue (can't remember which one). It has steel posts. It has holes in the base of the poles to put tent-pegs in and has guy ropes to tie it down with. I've left it up in the garden for the past month - just taken it down today. Easy to put up on my own. Perhaps I've just been lucky - but it seems very strong and sturdy.

We bought a good one, it cost about £80 and is well worth it. It has guy ropes and spaces to peg the legs down and withstood terrible high winds when we were in Dorset, wind coming right off the sea so hard we couldn't sit out in it, but the gazebo stayed up.We did take the sides down when the wind was at its height, but otherwise it was a great investment and is super to sit out under. We use it as a dayroom/kitchen and leave tables, charirs, cooker, out there. They also give you good protection from early morning dew and stop the chairs getting damp.

We too have a pop-up gazebo, they are very quick and easy to put up but not very strong. I would'nt want to leave it up in open areas and in any type of wind (a breeze is okay) even if the feet are pegged and guy-ropes on and especially if the panels are in.

A friend of ours had the same gazebo and he took it away for his weekend break, unfortunately he suffered bad weather that night(rain & very windy) and when he woke the following morning there was no sign of his gazebo!  He soon found it when many other campers further up the site were carrying bits of it back, fortunately it hadnt hurt anyone but it did cause some damage to a car wing mirror.

With the light weight pop-ups i'd recommend the garden!

We tried a pop-up Argos gazebo and really liked the ease with which it went up and the very pleasent feel of the extra space provided. However, the down-side was that it was very heavy and very bulky, so we kept it for the garden and bought a Sunncamp Scenic Plus, which packs away really small, is very light and goes up in not much more time than the gazebo. The space provided is a bit smaller and doesn't have quite the same relaxing 'feel' as being under the gazebo, but most things relating to caravans come down to a compromise.
