We're set on getting ourselves a Halogen heater for the Awning, what sort of price should we expect to get one for & is there just one type or more out there please. Knowing our luck we'll buy the first one we find & then find out we should have got a different one.

Suggestions please.

you can normally pick them up at markets for about £12 -15 depends what rating they are some have two heat settings others have three and ofcourse have diff power consumption

they are good most have auto cutoff if knocked over

one thing though if you have a dog then be warned it will lie in front of it and you might nevr get close to it having said that they are efficient and give a good heat and are safe

also other half telling me you can if you look get them for as little as 10 she would know

all the best

Poundstretcher, Wilkos, B&M etc all sell them for less than a tenner. 800w 2 settings and a cut off switch. You should see them coming into the shops about now for the winter. You can also buy them in most caravan or camping shops. We used one when we had a Folding Camper and it was great but we have a fan heater for the tent from Homebase also £10.

Just remember that a halogen heater just heats up the person, not the air.

We had one in our awning, but unless you are directly in front of it you do not feel any warmth.

We also found that the bright light produced can become a bit annoying.

Just my view.

Thanks for the replies, it seems from the input from TrickyT that I might be looking at the wrong type of heater. I need one to warm the awning & the two bedrom annexes on it. The one we have now does the job but you have to put it on very early in the evening & it takes a lot of space up in the van when mobile.

Hi Basilbrush

we bought a 800w halogen heater last year from www.Amazon.co.uk for around £9 as it was on special offer, we have a motor van and it heats it up a treat, and we don't have to sit right in front of it, in fact we had to turn it off as we got too hot.  I actually like the bright light that the heater gives off as it saves putting any other lights on in the van. if you are quick Amazon have got a bigger version on offer at the moment with 4 heat settings, ranging from 800w using one bar,  to 1800w if you put all four bars on.  and it is  oscillating, it also has a remote control, briliant I would think if you were tucked up in bed and want to switch the heater on or off! it is on offer with  50% off at £11.49, also with amazon you get free p+p if you spend £15.00 or more, I find it very easy to make up an order to £15 as they sell guide books and maps etc, ours arrived in a couple of days, I have found them a really good company, and when I had a problem with a tv I bought from them they sorted it out really quickly without question. I do not have any comnnection with them, I have just found them to be good.  Hope this helps.

I nearly forgot, the model on offer is the Igenix 1800w halogen heater, if you use their search facility it is the easiest way to find it.

Our Halogen heater always heated our FC up a treat, even with a fat cairn terrier sat in front of it as soon as it was switched on. If you want to look at alternatives I can recommend a fan heater. The can also be run on 1 or 2 settings but dont give off any light and ours from Homebase is fairly quiet but they are not silent.
