hi there everyone, we are new to camping and have been reading all the posts on here for a couple of weeks to try and be as ready as possible for our first camping trip, but as stated in the post title how long (cable length) will i need to buy for the majority of campsites in the U.K. as i dont know if every pitch has there own hookup near them or is there a central one which everyone has to use.

sorry if this seems a stupid question but as we have never been camping before we dont know and we dont want to buy one that is too short.

cheers in advance

stephen & family

   Stephen & Family...

You'll find that most E.H.U. cables are 20 metres long, which should be more than enough to reach any hookup point...

I'm probably telling you something you already know, but it is a safety issue, so I will anyway!... Don't be tempted to buy a cheap E.H.U. lead from E-bay or similar, get a proper one from a camping retailer, better to be safe than sorry!...

P.S. By the way, welcome to the U.K.C.S. website, where you'll always find someone to answer your questions (hopefully!) should you have any... Enjoy your first camping holiday, hope it's the first of many camping adventures...

Hi & welcome to the forum

Each pitch has their own hookup point. You will probably need at least a 10 metre cable, but 20 metres would cover all eventualities.

Please be careful when buying your EHU - don't buy a cheap ebay one. It may seem like a massive saving compared to the proper ones, but the lives of your family are worth more than money. Make sure you buy an EHU with fully encased sockets and an RCD trip incorporated into the top section of the unit. These are available at around £59, but shop around for the best deal.

You'll be able to get one from any camping store, though you may well be able to find one cheaper online (there will probably be a delivery charge for online purchase). Expect to pay about £45 for a single plug lead and around £65 for a three plug lead...
If you 'click' on 'Features/Tips' at the top of the page, then scroll down, you'll find an article on E.H.U.s which might help you... Andy...

I personally think that 30M is a good length esp if youre going abroad, some of the ehu points can be a heck of a way off.

Whilst on the subject get a continental adaptor and lead with the polarity reversed, the french is always crossed over and can blow your 12V dc fuses.
