I've recently purchased a Dutch Oven complete with tripod and I'm after any suggestions for providing heat to the oven on camp sites that don't allow open fires.
Obviously I wouldn't be looking to use the Dutch Oven all the time and certainly not on very busy sites.
We're thinking of using 3 bricks with a Wok on top and putting coals in that - that way you dont skortch the grass. We dont have a tripod but a well made wok should be able to take the weight. Its a shame more sites dont allow open fires - they are SO useful for cooking and heating and telling stories round.
Why not look for / make something like this? Cheap and because it isn't an open fire as such ánd it is off the ground by 10 inches, no campsite would or could complain as it is virtually the same as a BBQ... only you put your tripod and DO over it...
After using them on a campfire a couple of weeks ago we got to wondering how we could use them in future at non campfire site and came up with a firepit. We did use one on an notebook BBQ and was fine too.
I like the look of that above (goes off to search the web.....)
Standard issue in our camping gear as well. Great for that Sunday roast! Prepare meals while reading and eat as if in a top restaurant! Cleaning is a doddle as well. Hot rinse, wipe clean and presto, next meal please!
