Need the car space but want something that's safe (2 small children), heat is regulated or remote control. Not sure whether to get 1KW desk top fan or halogen. Does anyone have experience of either / both?
We used a fan heater last winter in the fc overnight, safe, good heat output, etc. But found it dried the air out, causeing us headaches and dry eyes. So this time we are gonna try a small convector heater, see how we get on with that. Don't fancy a halgen glowing all night and lots of people here have said it only heats what the light can reach.
If you have a 10 amp EHU a 2kw fan heater should not trip the supply. If you are unsure run it on 1/2 power. Can buy these argos/woolies ect for £10-£12.
We have both. Certainly overall we have found the Halogen to heat better in our bigger tent. The Halogen is bright at night but that doesn't really bother us. The fan heater is certainly noisier. We bought the 2KW fan heater and just use it on half power for 10AMP supplies. The fan heaters are much smaller and take us less room in the car.
The halogens do give off a very bright orange glow. In the confined space of a tent in the dark it looks a lot different to what it does at home in your living room, under room lighting conditions!
I trying a 2kw convector heater with thermostat in the PopUp this weekend. I intend using it on a low setting just to keep the chill off, the draw of about 9 amps should cause no problems and the solid floor is a stable platform.. I did try a fan heater last year, but then I lay awake waiting for the fan motor to start up and shut down.
i wouldnt have either!!! halogen one to bright to sleep through and the noise of the fan would keep you awake, better of with an oil radiator ours does up to 2 kw but can go as low as 750w even on high we havent had any problems with tripping yet
Sorry for late reply only just seen your request. The 1KW fan heater was purchased from http://www.infra-red-systems.com/Halogen%20Heating%20Caravans.htm. or tel: 0115 9787 821. The lady who sold it to me is also a camper which was and also gave me solid advice (and didn't sell me the most expensive product) which was reassuring!
