Somebody will probably correct me as I am not an electrician, but is there not already an RCD/trip switch on the power points that you plug into on the camp sites?

If so, why do you need 2 RCD/power cut off devices (1 at the point of hook up and 1 on your EHU lead?

Yes, some campsites do have good quality, well maintained pitch electrics. You`d probably not need your own RCD here. But if I recall correctly, the closer the RCD is to the point of fault then the faster it works....and in the case of a small child or elderly person with a dicky heart being on the other end of the power surge then this might well make a difference.

Other campsites don`t have well maintained good quality site electrics. Sometimes people tamper with them. Sometimes they get bodged. Sometimes you end up on foreign campsites where the electrics are, to say the least, interesting. In this case, you do need your own RCD, no?

So for the sake of £50...which is, after all, not a huge sum of money when a life could be saved...I thing people should buy and use a  proper camping rated RCD protected hook up. Two RCDs ain`t going to do you any harm...it`s the lack of any at all that would be the problem, no?

It's possible that the RCD's that are found on the post at the point where you plug your lead in, are 100 milliamp, that means it will trip out when 100 milliamps flow to earth, either through the neutral or the live, so, if you have a 30 milliamp RCD fitted to your own lead (as is the norm), when there is a fault it will trip out your supply and not everyone else connected to your post.
There, that must be my first sensible reply!!!!

With respect that would be VERY irresponsible. It is not safe so should be either returned or skipped - why put someone else at risk.
