Hiya everyone.

While we were away this weekend I got talking to others who were also staying on site, (like you do) and she noticed that I was using aqua kem green, (smells very nice BTW!) She pointed out that not all sites let you use green/blue/whatever.

We only started caravanning a year ago so I still class ourselfs as a green behind the gills here but I didn't think for a minute that the aqua kem would be a problem anywhere because thats what its made for.

I don't want to stay anywhere and do anything that could endanger the eco-system or upset anyone so where can I find this information? Or will it be on site? I'm really worried about it now and the more I think of it the more worried I'm getting

Any feedback would be a great help!

The link above relates to North American Legislation.

Some sites are a bit edgy about letting you use the blue chemical.  The green is seen to be a bit more environmentally friendly, but, IMO does not work as good.

I think that some of the 'Blue' contains formaldehyde and if poured into a cryptic tank could upset some of the bacteria and stop them doing their job properly. Any campsite that does not want you to dispose of such chemicals in their tank put a sign up near the kimik telling you not to do it. The 'Green' stuff is supposed to be environmentally friendly and does not contain any nasty chemicals so is safe to put in these tanks. I have heard that the newer 'Blue' is safe to use but you need to look on the container to check its formulation

We manufacture Blue Diamond toilet fluid in the UK so I hope this info helps in relation to the original question.

We produce three different products:

Concentrate 2 Litre/ 1 Litre - this product has a 24% formeldahyde content.  Most standard fluids have a 10% content so you can use half as much of Blue Diamond concentrate.

3 Litre Toilet Fluid - this product is a standard 10% formeldahyde product, so you use as much as other standard products.

Both of the above products cost around the same - £5.99-£6.99 ish.

The third, and final, product is Blue Diamond 2 litre/ 1 litre Green toilet fluid.  This contains Biocide, rather than formeldahyde.  This is better for the environment than formaldehyde but some septic tanks work in unison with formaldehyde so its best to check before you use a particular type.  Due to quantities we produce Green is normally 50p dearer in stores.

I hope this helps in some way.  For the best effect use Formaldehyde - and the stronger it is the more it will work (24% is the highest legal dose so is the strongest possible), and if effect isnt as important as the environment to you then green is best.

If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Kind Regards,

Daniel at Blue Diamond

We use the blue sachets, very easy to use, lighter weight to carry, but more expensive.

Regarding the comment about some camp sites putting up notices by the CWDP this is true but as i found out on my last trip, i had put the aquakem Blue into my tank and did not see the notice till i went to empty the tank, perhaps campsites should give this information upfront when they take a booking, i am all in favour of following site rules bit it is a bit late when you are going to empty the tank.
