I am going to buy a cobb as I have been saving up for months and have finally got enough money. Does anyone know of where I can get the heat beads from? Can I use charcoal briquettes or normal charcoal and what is this I read about carbon monoxide being given off from the unit when in use?

if you can find heat beads please please let us know,we last bought ours from homebase but they only stock the in summer.we have searched every diy shop,supermarket and camping shop for miles around to no avail.
we did use briquettes and they did work but you need loads and they are rather smelly but they they did the job eventually.

Heat Beads are in the sale at Go outdoors if you have one near you not sure of the price on line but store price is £4.50 a bag in the Stockport one .

Also try garden centres as they often have BBQ sections. Our nearest one is still selling at £2.99 a 4 kilo bag(Weber). If you don't see any,ask,as they might be out back to make room for c*****mas stock.

The Range had them earlier in the year if there is one by you. i had my first ones from supergreen thumb because i couldnt find them anywhere in march

just to add to that list, i spotted some webber heatbeads in bickerdikes garden centre near Baldock at the weekend - seemed a bit pricy but they were big bags! might be of help to someone

The list posted on 28/11/06 was for Austrailian Heat Beads.

I'm not sure how the Webber heatbeads compare in terms of heat and burning times.

looking at the packaging the Webber ones are just Australian Heatbeads put in Webber bags, so they should be exactly the same.

If you are not going to do a roast..on the cobb... then just use ordinary briquettes.. the Heat beads are for if you are roasting and you need the 'timed' heat...

Hi Fairybelle enjoy your Cobb I think they are excellent cookers. I have never tried heat beads but I am looking forward to having a go.

Regarding the use of charcoal, use briquettes. I have tried normal charcoal but the results have been not too amazing & if memory serves correct Cobb only recommend briquettes. I have obtained another kind of fuel, hope to do some tests soon & if it is any good I will tell you all about it.

Still there today - same price! This is in the Lakeside garden centre at Crockerton, just outside Warminster. They have another branch in /near Bristol and not sure where else. Sure they have got the price wrong. Must go and stock up.

Have got 4 bags already though!
