My freind has just purchased a TOMTOM One and installed the safety camera upgrade. on traveling up to my house from wales he noticed that he only got one alert for a fixed speed camera. this cant be right , anyone got any ideas please .
If he has used the TomTom safety cameras ( i.e. the ones that are available as a service on their website ), then they are extremely inaccurate. I found there were loads of cameras missing from it. The PocketGPS one is the best one which is updated monthly and a lot cheaper.
This does sound a bit suspicious though that he only got one.
I have TomTom with camera alerts. Mine goes off all the time and also picks up traffic light camera's. Tom Tom not 100% accurate so be warned. I would tell him to down load this agian from their webb site might help.
In my opinion, the camera thing is a waste of time. It also encourages drivers to exceed the speed limit, knowing that they can then drive within the law when they know there is a camera nearby. Save money and be safer - drive within the speed limit, then you won't need the camera positions on your sat nav.
thanks for the advice on other down load sites , I will pass it on to him.
I myself use a Talex camera detector and they are brilliant, I didnt purchase it so I could speed around the county , I got it because these camera's are only positioned in accident black spots so they indicate to me of a hazzard area
We have the TomTomOne and I think its smashin. Again, I can recommend PocketGPS for their safety camera downloads at a very reasonable cost of just £2 per month (I only did it for one month and will maybe update in a year) or £19 for the year and you can update twice/month. I think its money well spent with PocketGPS who previously gave the database for free until the demand got so great. You can also get loads of POI's there for free too. I have all the CC sites, Tesco, Asda' and Sainsbury so wherever we stay I can find a shop lol! Plus racecourses, historic houses etc etc
Has your friend enabled each camera download? Once you have received the download you then have to go into the POI and enable each type of camera to tell it to warn you (set the distance/sound etc) On the database you get off PocketGPS I think there are about 5 sets of cameras and each one has to be enabled individually.
Hi Kluedo, You have all the same POI's as us, they do come in useful when your miles from home and need a supermarket etc. I have also made our own POI with all camping shops we have been to and think are good as well as campsite.
