im looking for waterproof gear for the kids, i have a peter storm waterproof jacket for My son which i ahve been given not sure if its nay good though and i need an equivelent fpr the littlest one.  Have been to Millets and seen all different makes. Are there any makes that i should steer clear of , any that are good.  Looking for jackets and trousers.  For camping but also when we are trialing with our Land rover club , needs to be waterproof rather than shower proof.  Any recommendations gratefully recevied

There are lots of makes that are fine - I have a good winter weight Berghaus jacket, but for all purpose waterproofness we both have a set of the light weight jacket and trousers by Regatta, which we got at Yeomans, though I have seem then in lots of other camping shops. These have served well for over 3 years and are still going strong. They pack really small too. As for other makes, there is a lot to choose from and I can't think of any that you should avoid; it is more a case that some are likely to be over-engineereed for your needs and would therefore be an unecessary expense, I reckon. In a good shop the staff should be able to advise you on what makes are value for money.

The main thing to check for with any waterproof clothing is that the label says it is breathable. Otherwise your body moisture can't escape and you can end up all sticky and damp!

We got the children (6 and 4) some water proof gear from Decathlon and so far it seems ok.  At the moment the are wearing the jackets for school and as Foggers mentioned they probably are over engineered for this purpose.
