If you can handle a saw and spanner then it's not too difficult. However gas fittings should really be tested by a corgi registered plumber or equivalent.

Not sure what you're trying to do though. Ext BBQ points are normally for getting gas from your gas bottle in the locker to an external point. I don't think a 19kg bottle will fit in your locker? why don't you just connect it direct to your external equipment?

it is not a good idea to feed gas into your van from a bbq point that is designed to feed gas in oposit direction

your insurance company will use this to get out of paying up in the event there is a related problem

why not just extend your feed pipe in the bulkhead locker so you can stand bottle next to hitch? much less hassle and only the cost of a meter of pipe and no cutting or damp patch problems

Choco, are these weekend rallies you're going on? Reason for asking is that as a family of five we survive quite happily on a 6kg cylinder for the weekend and longer.

Morning Choco. Our  6kg propane will usually last us for at least 4 weekends which is why I queried you having a 19kg bottle. We also have another 6kg as a spare and also to fire up the cadac bbq. Both bottles remain in the gas locker with a 3m gas line running out to the cadac - far easier than cutting a hole in your caravan.We also find that on our centre rallies, if anyone runs out of gas there is usually someone who can lend you a spare for the duration of the rally. Personally I would find this a far easier solution than lugging round a 19kg cylinder in and out of the caravan.Hope this helps - have a great Christmas!

Hi, Choco.  If you are determined to fit a BBQ point to your caravan (ours came as part of the spec, and I would not now be without it), I suggest you visit a few caravan dealers and look closely at how such BBQ points are installed.  Best to make notes at the time.

Before going any further, decide whether you feel confident to do a DIY job, and where to site the outlet.  You need to get the BBQ as far from the van/awning as possible, with as short a gas hose as possible.    My gas point is about a metre from the front end of the van, and I use a 4 metre gas hose.

If you go ahead, have the installation checked, as advised above.

If you intend to feed gas into this external point, the simple answer is DO NOT.

Concerning the advice to extend your gas hose in the locker, there is a regulation for this length, and it may be as short as 1 metre.

Above all else, you must not cause infringement of the safety rules applicable to caravan sites, by making your outfit unsafe.   The safety of other campers and their units is paramount, and that of your family and yourself is just as important.  And it would be unwise to risk invalidating your caravan insurance.
