I have reservations about my cobb..... Have conquered cooking with it now.. but the washing up afterwards is awful. Barbecues for me washing up wise have been simple you just scrub the wires off and the lay them across hot coals to burn off the bugs..... 5 seconds. And when you are camping in the middle of now where this is fine as washing up when there is no hot water needs to be simple.
The cobb job... and I am not sure what the cadac is like.... The moat is an absolute pain to wash ... you have to leave it soaking.. Then there are lots of other bits.. you have the grilling surface... the body of the thing as well if you get grease all over it... There are loads of nooks and crannies on the thing.
It does do a wonderful roast.. I did a roast duck this year with all the trimmings on a campsite. Putting the potatoes in the moats to cook from the fat from the duck. It did an excellent job. Frying/stir frying is fine for a small number of people but if you have too do batches you have a job... you have to cover the grill and allow it to really get hot and then use... once cooking one batch you have to recover and wait again for 10 minutes to heat up again. So do not think like I did that you can do fried breakfast quickly for 8 .. 4 people yes no problem. But then there is the washing up to cope with afterwards....
My advice is really think what you are going to be using the cobb for... .... They are great as they are so stable and compartively safe compared to most barbecues as you can even take them into a tent, which in our weather is a godsend.
Personally I do not think a gas device counts as a barbecue.. for me a barbecue has to be charcoal....
