Have a look for Coleman Northstar Battery Lantern. Used ours extensively last year - long battery life and bright.

My Lidl lanterns are bright and batteries last ages. They are usually available twice a year, look out for the camping equipment to come back in stock.
If you have EHU you could consider the Coleman rechargable. Ours is bright enough to read by and comes with a little remote control. Useful if you need to get up in the night, switch off from the bed etc.
I am interested too. It needs to bright enough for two people to read by without having to hold it in front of the books. Aren't tent dark at night? Makes you realize how much of a difference light coloured walls make in a house.
Coleman Northstar every time, if you go to Yeomans they have it on offer for £15 right now.
Only thing that put me off is no means of charging from the car unless you have a 12 volt "D" type charger.
The smaller rechargeable green type with or without the "Nightsearcher" name on are all built by the same Chinese company and ALL have the same fault, the voltage inverter that powers the strip lamp is under-powered and will sometimes even catch fire, I know of three cases one of which was inside a tent yet still the stores fail to address the supplyers. Be carefull.
what the heck!!!! if you switched that on( Endurance Rechargeable Handlamp)you'd have planes landing on top of you or ships crashing into the coast thinking its a light from a lighthouse
