I have one and it's great, but only plugged into the main ariel. It won't work from a portable ariel. But that suits me, I wanted it as a way of recording stuff when I'm on nights, ie all the time. And it does that beautfully, and then I can take the lappy to bed to watch it
There have been a number of threads on this subject before. I have tried a number of USB units on my home PC attached to the main house ariel and confess that there is inconsistency in their quality of output. In reality all the manufacturers will say that for best performance, the usb needs to be attached to a static main arial. I have only ever found the portable one to be of use in very strong signal areas otherwise it is useless. You also have to be careful that the device is either USB1 or USB2 which will dictate if it will work with your laptop as USB1 is too slow. I bought mine to take away with us while camping as we can also play DVD's on the lappy but to date I have never found a site where the signal is strong enough. This may be because we spend alot of our free time down in Cornwall and the reception is quite poor there.
I have this . It works very well when a good signal is present, or is connected to a household aerial. We camp mostly in the lakes and have never had a good enough signal yet. So I bought an 8" freeview and PAL ( terrestrial ) conbined. So when I have a poor signal at least I can usually get some sort of terrestrial picture.
Hi, we have one and find it works fine, Must agree that it's best on the main aerial, But so is the original freeview box we used to have for the tv so it's not the device but more the signal strength in that area that matters, we have now left the tv at home and use the laptop for tv viewing and the internet when away.
------------- Doing as little as possible for as much as possible...

It is heavy on my lappy's resources though.
hi whiskey you made a comment last year on usb dongles for your lappy was just wanting to know what you meant by it being heavy on your lappys resources?
Bought one and used it outside the house. great picture and loads of stations. Went on holiday and nothing. Changed onto a proper external aerial and it seems to be reasonable. I never use it so draw your own conclusions
Get a satellite with receiver, and be done with all the reception problems, I got one that has both USB and SCART outlet so can be used with a TV or laptop.
