Hi

we've been stuck in the mud once or twice in our motorhome.Didnt find the Fiamma antislip mats any good at all-had to be towed off!

Has anyone used the go-claws system (as seen in Amazing outdoors catalogue), Grip Track or have any other suggestions?

thanks

Was fishing in Wales once when two old codgers got their caravanette bogged down, after trying to get out for a while & making it worse I put a dog blanket under each front wheel folded in 4 lengthwise & told him to take it easy but keep going when hes moving, he did, ignorant old ba$!£^d never even stopped to say thanks, just to say ,a couple of old blankets do work, I hope the head gasket went on the way home.

The Yellow anti-slip mats are totally useless. They are a sheer waste of money and I wish that they were not sold because people, trustingly, rely on them to get them out of the Poo.

The best stuff is P.S.P. - perforated steel plate, ouch, ouch, ouch - don't drop it your foot Vicar £15 a length from some-one like Anchor supplies. Looks very ally on a Landie but not so butch on a Hymer or Autocruiser (got tears running down my cheeks as I write this, The thought that an "off the shelf" Motorhome would be strong enough to support the stuff) There are some people who produce the same stuff in Aluminium, much lighter of course but it's over a £100 per strip

But all is not lost! If you look round places like your local Supermarket you will see that the Bread is delivered on large trays... Beg, borrow or steal two of these and cut the sides off. Hey presto, you have some very durable anti-slip mats. very easy to clean and best of all - They're free!

I agree with the last comment about the yellow anti-slip mats being usless as we were on a site last weekend and the motorhome had tried using a set and they ended up about 12" down in the Mud! if you need to get out of the mud you neew to talk to the bloke or 3 with the big 4x4 to tow you out

Have been stuck in the mud once and want it to stay that way.  The yellow mats are useless.  Now have four of thick rubber door mats from Wilko's, the ones with the diamond shaped holes.  If the ground is soft we park with each wheel on a mat.  If it gets very wet we intend to place the yellow mats infront of the mats under the front wheels and drive on to them.  We can then keep moving the mats infront of the drive wheels of the van and drive onto them.  Slow I know but better than being bogged down.  Hope we never have to try it out.

Sometimes a little rain must fall before you reach a rainbow.

The work will wait while you show the child the rainbow, but the rainbow won't wait while you finish the work.

Thanks for replies so far

Yellow mats are useless I agree. 4x4 with towrope very handy if one is around at the time but can't always rely on that.

Do the rubber mats work? Have you had to use this strategy yet?

Bread crates sound a good option-will have to keep my eyes open

Not had to test out the rubber mats to get off wet area but they do the same job as bread crate bottoms.  We have parked on the rubber mats and they do help stop the wheels going into the ground as they're fairly solid.  We store them between the driver and passenger seats and under the passengers feet so they take up no extra room. If you don't need them under the wheels you can always use them as door mats.

I saw the mats but ended up getting a 5m length of green mesh which i've pegged over the mud as sort of runners, as my problem is getting the trailer onto the grass where it lives. Will have to wait and see if it works!
