 I am visiting a site with very sandy soil, I read somewhere that you need special pegs for this type of pitch, is this correct and if so where can I buy these pegs ?

I agree with Piglet. Thats exactly  what we do, its more sand than soil where we pitch and we've never had any problems..........until it comes to taking them out that is

I have always found bulldog pegs to be the best for sandy ground, especially if crossed as suggested by Piglet and Ma.

I certainly would not consider skewer type or plastic pegs for this kind of ground.

Hi Alan. The sandier the soil, the more you need a peg with a large surface area.
It's just like pulling a matchstick and a shovel through sand, you know which one will be more difficult.
If you would like to supply an address, I'll happily send a sample.

Same as normal Delta pegs. When produced, the spade will slip on like a shoe.

Very neat.  Whose a Clever Boy then!! The wise one strikes another great idea.

 Thanks for the suggestions, I already own some Delta pegs and have just orderd some more. I am campervaning on the east coast and am worried my stand alone awning might get blown away.

If weight is not a problem, ie you are in a car etc. Then I always carry a few of those Giant corkscrews that dog owners have. They are about 18 inches and screw into the ground to attach dog leads to. However if you expect inclement weather (UK!) then 2 of these are the best anchors for any tent. One at the front and one at the back, and the tent is going nowhere ! These adapt to any ground no matter how sandy. plus with a lever in the round part at the top, you can screw into any ground no matter how rockey as well. You can get them cheap in Pound shops etc. So they are worth carrying. Cheers4now, Dave.
