Hi

I have just bought an Abbey GT212 with a carver SB1800 heater fitted. My problem is that the pilot light will light the fire but as soon as I release the push down button the heater goes out?????

I have tried holding down the button for longer but to no avail???

I am using propane gas and the oven, cooker and grill all work fine I have not tried the fridge yet but I will do tomorrow..

Do any of you know what may be causing the heater to go out all the time and could it possibly be linked to the thermostat fitted to this van??

All advice would be gratefully received.

Regards Colzie

P.s I have searched through a lot of Garys posts but I have not come across my exact problem or how it is cured?

TY

The valve you are talking about is called a Flame Failure Device.....or FFD for short.

Basically a small lead from the valve has its tip next to the burner, when you hold in the button, gas passes through the FFD to the burner.......and the tip of the lead detects the heat from the burner.

The heat creates a minute electrical current at the tip which then holds open a solonoid valve in the FFD so that when you release the button gas keeps flowing to the burner as long as the tip of the is hot.

The most usual fault is that the tip of the lead burns away over time and no longer produces the small electrical current.

The technical name for this lead by the way is......Thermocouple lead.

They are normally relatively inexpensive and easy to change....

.....However being that this is a 'camping' appliance, perhaps you should omit the word inexpensive from the above statement.

On domestic appliances, a typical lead would be less than a fiver.
