In September we are going to be doing a tour in our motorhome of France.
Whilst heading back north through France we thought about stopping off in the champagne region.
Can anyone recommend any towns/villages that they would stay at whilst in the area, and anywhere we can stay. (We are self contained so have no problem staying on a vineyard).
Also, what IS the cost of a bottle in France as we usually head to the Loire Valley where you can pick up a decent crate of 6 for about 40 euro
Thanks

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
The cost of a bottle of Champagne will vary enormously depending on which you want, the same as buying any other wine. I assume that your 6 for 40 euros in the Loire region is not referring to Champagne.
Impossibly difficult to answer, local non commercial houses will vary greatly from names you can get here.
Remember, Moet is always for people you don't like.

We always buy sparkling Loire wine,it's cheaper than champagne and very nice. You can visit the caves around Saumur and buy direct. We have a few cases in our garage from our recent French holiday.
Around to € 6 to 8 a bottle.

Buying direct from the producers mean you get a better product for less.
There's plenty of producers who are members of the scheme between Reims and Epernay. 47 of the 57 scheme members in the Marne department produce champagne.
It depends upon what you want, do you want champagne or do you just want pettillant/cremant/method traditionalle type wine? Going by cost might not get you the best product (and I'm not saying the more you pay the better the wine, it really isn't necessarily the case).
You might be better waiting until you get back to the UK and watching out for a supermarket 25% off offer also somewhere like Waitrose will give you an extra 5% off for buying 6 or more bottles.
We stopped at Epernay municipal campsite in May in order to visit the Avenue de Champagne. Lots of big champagne houses where you can see round and with their own bar in which you can stop for a glass or bottle if your funds run to that. We really enjoyed the experience and visited the garden bar of Perrier Jouet which was 19 euros a glass served with a couple of hors d’oevres. We didn’t buy a bottle …

WOW, but, this is the exact info I wanted to hear (well not (but you get my point))

Lived in France for the last 5 years - best value non champagne fizz that is widely available is Lidl's Cremant d'Alsace which you can usually pick up for about 6 euro.
Nearest to Champagne taste is usually Cremant de Bourgogne followed by Cremants from the Loire and Bordeaux - usually plenty under 10 euro.
Not a fan of Saumur which I'd place on a par with Prosecco and not as good as a decent Cava at the same price.
|Our Favourite non champagne fizz is Trousse Chemise from the wine co-op on the Ile de Re - still under 7 euro direct from the co-op or the big supermarkets on the island - don't buy fron markets, boutiques etc as you'll pay well over the odds.
We tried Cremant de Loire and Bourgogne while on holiday, the Alsace one is very nice too.
We usually drink the sparkling as its a similar price to still, but we do try local ones. The sparkling red from Veuve Amiot is nice.

If in the Carcassonne/ Limoux area of SW France try “blanquette de Limoux”. It is so local that I got a funny look when I tried to order it in a cafe in Cassis not far up the coast last year.
Its fame must be spreading though because I had a glass at the Bonnie Badger at Gullane in East Lothian just last week. 😀
Tesco sell it in their Finest range, normal price £10 Clubcard £9
