Hi
A bit early I know but am looking at booking a holiday in Brittany next year. Our first time towing our own caravan to France this year was a success and we enjoyed it so much we plan on doing it again but to a different area.
Because we plan on travelling further we think it would be easier to leave the campsite where we will spend a fortnight and travel back to stay near to Roscoff for a final night. This way we won't have the time pressure when packing up and having to get back to Roscoff for the afternoon sailing, we can take our time returning and park up the caravan near the port, do a basic set up, eat out, then a short distance the next day with plenty of time.
Looking for recommendations for decent places to stay, not too far from the main route and that allow one night stopovers.
Thanks.

I always use Camping le Trologot at Saint Pol de Leon,4.7 miles from Roscoff.
It's right on the seafront and you can see the ferry from the site.

Not too early at all - I had my itinerary for next year's trip in France and the Netherlands already planned, just waiting for the campsites to accept bookings for May 2024, and then I shall book my tunnel crossings.
Good luck with your trip!

Looks like le Trologot is ideal for our needs. Thanks for the help...now to look at booking.

Yes, ditto le Trogolot - assuming you are going in the season, there's a handful of restaurants along the road towards the port and more within easy driving distance in St Pol itself. The campsite does snacks and has a nice bar next to the pool. We liked the area far more than we expected to so might be worth considering a couple of nights rather than just the one if you've got a long drive up from southern Brittany?

As someone who has never booked a caravan site, apart from a call a day or two before, in 30 years. Do you really need to book this far in advance? We much prefer just touring and picking sites as we go along………Never had a problem outside school holidays. 👍
I'm with Devonatheart-- have never booked a site even at peak times. Just get yourself a good guide and turn up. If you have booked you are under pressure to arrive, not what you want on holiday.

Ps: Le Trogolot is a good one. 👍
This year it was exceptionally busy in June, we were turned away at one site because it was full of people, like us, trying to take advantage of the ACSI discount. The site we used as an alternative, one we'd used at the same time of year a few years ago and was only half full that time, only had 4 spaces when we arrived and was soon turning people away. We also went to the municipal at Nantes which fortunately let us book but still claim ACSI rates, I'm glad we did because it too was full.
So if you absolutely want to be at a certain place at a certain time it may be worth booking.

We also use Camping Le Trologot for the final night before getting the ferry from Roscoff.
However, Trologot is a site with so many recommendations that it can be full in peak season.
Our alternative without a booking, before and after the Roscoff ferry, was often Camping Municipal de la Palud at Plougoulm. A simple site about 5 miles from the ferryport, without a barrier where one can arrive or leave at any time, with a local lady in charge who comes for an hour or two in a morning and evening - so go and say hello and pay her 16 euros. Casual.
That site was typically open from mid June to mid September, but who knows what the situation will be in 2024.

We were brave and 'winged it' a bit in late June/early July last year but found that, the popular stopover sites eg St Claire in Neufchatel, which we'd fortunately pre-booked, were full up. Places where there is not much choice of site such as Camping Nantes are also worth booking - also fully booked the first week in July. If you need/want to be in a specific place at a specific time - for us particularly the first and last nights of the trip I would always find having pre-booked less stressful ! With a moho we are lucky that we can use aires but equally they can be full when you arrive.
Thanks...am tied to school holidays because of my job so prefer to book as its always a busy period during those six weeks. We know the area we want to visit in Brittany, around Benodet or a little further down and have a couple of sites in mind. I'm also a bit paranoid about the toilets and facilities being clean which mean I'm scouring reviews to see what the comments say! Also feels less stressful knowing we have somewhere booked and can turn up without worrying about if the site is full.

Emminently sensible booking during the school holidays - we always did when we were tied to mid July - end of August/ start of Sept.
Hope you enjoy it and may be tempted in future to venture further afield - Loire valley / Vendee / La Rochelle are all in fairlyy easy reach in a fortnight.
Ok - after over 30 years and having reached nearly 80 years old, “good lady” and I have sadly decided to abandon our annual months holiday in France. For all of these years we have enjoyed Camping Bois Soleil a mile or so down the coast from Royan. We have always travelled down in late May or early June. The site is split into two, one part of the site actually on the site cliff top and the other just across the dead end road about 100 yards away. The beach is approximately a mile or so long. We have stopped in many other sites on our way down the west coast but we have not found any better.

Benodet is a lovely spot, it's always what I have in my minds eye when I think of a typical Breton town. We've stayed at Camping du Polquer a couple of times, it's a nice site, the sanitaires were always clean but the toilets are typical of French sites.
As other's have said, there's some great spots on the way down the coast there, we've stayed at Camping La Grande Vallée in La Tranche sur Mer in the Vendée is a good spot.
