Now that the ferry is booked (Club Class yipeee), and the 'bungalow' is booked at 'Nanzel', it's time to consider the stop over. We have stayed in Eguisheim and love it but following the disaster experienced in August 2022 ..we need an alternative.
Eguisheim is equidistant from the Ferry to Limone.
Ideally:
Private parking in the hotel grounds
Rural
Not far from the motorway
The Alsace is perfect.
When this was first calculated we travelled from Zeebrugge, now of course we drive from Rotterdam. We know the route well, so the extra mileage doesn't seem as far.
Ideally approximately 7hrs.
It's good to have a shorter journey on day 2, although when making the return journey it can't be too onerous.
There is always a route through Germany via the Brenner Pass to consider.
Seasoned travellers will have some good ideas hopefully?🙏

Hi BC,
We have travelled, car & caravan and a MH, from Hook of Holland to Garda.
Our friends with the MH wanted to avoid using a GoBox in Austria so we went via the Fern Pass, Landeck and the Reisa Pass and it was a very enjoyable route. If you go via Landeck itself, and not the Landeck tunnel, there were no tolls at all.
It may not suit if speed is your preference but being limited when towing it was not a problem for us.
We have since used the Brenner and would go for the Landeck route before that, but, with just the car it might appeal more.
Re overnight stops you could take a look at Hotel B&B. We have used them in France-there are quite a few to choose from so you could even leave booking till enroute and you have a better idea of your likely ETA, and we liked the automated system of access.
In France their is usually a food outlet, such as Buffalo Grill, adjacent-one that looks suitable is below;

Finally, looking on Google maps currently shows road closures on the road from Riva to Limone-we are considering a 'hotel tour' to celebrate a Big Birthday in June, and Hotel Monte Baldo is on our list of possibles.

Only 5 weeks to go...
The 'Ferme Du Pape', Eguisheim appears to have changed hands and is no longer part of Brithotels.
Improvements have been implemented, so we have booked the outbound and return stop overs.
Eguisheim is the perfect location being approximately halfway to Lake Garda. It is a short drive to the motorway, rural setting. In fact it is one of the villages which inspired the 'village scenes' in Beauty and the Beast. It is very pretty, it looks more German than French.
So we're sorted.
It will be strange with a solid roof over our heads than 'canvas', but we are not relinquishing the advantage of being on a fantastic campsite. ( Nanzel, Limone sul Garda)
It will be good to enjoy some prolonged sunshine, blighty isn't exactly enjoying a typical summer is it!!
