Hi all,

I'm sorted, and have been for almost a decade now... but a mate of mine is trying to follow suit, and subscribe to ATMB for the toll tag.
It's all on-line nowadays of course, and after filling in his details, and attaching the two ID's, all that's left is to tick the 3 boxes at the bottom... one of which is to read and accept the terms... and this is where proceedings come to a halt!
The attached (scanned) ID's are 125 & 89kb respectively, so well below the 5MB limit.

There's no option for print/complete/scan etc. It's simply "Please read and accept our general conditions of sale to access the next step" and two clickable tabs at the bottom...

Click "Close without accepting", and it simply goes back a step, as one would expect.
Unfortunately it does the same when you click "I read and I agree to the general selling conditions.
It appears to be impossible to get that third tick in the box!

Try clicking the "Following" button under the price summary, and it comes up with a red warning/advisory panel... "I accept the ATMB billing conditions of sale is obligatory."

Yep! We know! But you won't let us accept!

There's no mention of any other problem... all attachments appear to be acceptable, and all obligatory name/address/contact details are completed correctly, down to the "ROYAUME-UNI (UK)" tab on the address, and the Union Flag/+44 on the 'phone number.
That one red warning panel is the only hint of why we cannot progress to the payment page!

Anyone signed up lately, and have any helpful words of encouragement, or even a "Hang on in there. You got this" type of support!

Like I say, this is for a mate... Mine is all fine and dandy, but they have changed the process (and the website) since I got mine.

Yours most flummoxed.
Mr I'm alright Jack.

Only a thought but have you tried scrolling to the end of the "terms and conditions" to see if there is a tick box there too?
Good luck, this is where your patience gets tested!

Thanks Keith.
Yes, in theory, the T&Cs is the old format tick box form (pdf) that (from memory) used to be printed off, completed, then scanned back in. Nothing can be ticked on screen, other than the newly added* aforementioned 2 boxes to agree or not.

I think he's about ready to give up, as he's keen to not pay fees/deposits/higher charges etc that he's seeing with other providers.
I did lend him mine the other week, but long term that's not ideal, as you just know the battery won't go until it's me stuck at the barrier, and me the locals are parping at, as I reverse to the machine to put my loose change in!

*I say "Newly added", but that could have been anytime since since I signed up myself a decade ago!

A couple of things that can fall foul of the validation rules of French web forms in general are the postcode/departement field which is often validated as numeric only and five digits needed because that is how all French codes work. So if you input letters or spaces in the field it won’t let you continue.

Likewise if you accidentally input a blank space before or after any of your responses to pretty much any of the inputs that can be a problem

Lastly, for the telephone number try removing the leading zero if it asks for the international code first or if that doesn’t work try putting it back in😳. Also remove any spaces between the area code and the number or put it back in if it doesn’t work

Good luck 😣

Ken

Thanks for your thoughts Ken.

Not sure the post code can be titivated, as the tag needs to arrive in the post! I know I entered my address (inc post code) correctly, albeit all that time ago. I might get him to try it though. You never know!

Phone number was entered with the automatic +44, then he typed in the number minus that initial 0, so that should be ok.

I think the annoying thing is with this sort of thing, these websites usually tell you in red what you have done wrong/what you have omitted etc.

This one just tells you to accept the T&C's... then completely ignores the fact you are trying to click on that very box!

I think he's going to stick with the good old pay as you go option, as there's no way he's going to get a tag from elsewhere, if it means him paying more fees than I am!

Cheers.

What you can do is put in something that the system will accept just to get past that stage and then correct it later by amending your details.

As an alternative I can recommend Bip&Go who I am with, which has minimal charges (€1.70 per usage month + €10 initial set up) but you also have to pay by euro direct debit which we set up easily thru Starling Bank.

You could apply for a second tag on your account if you know and trust your mate. I did this for a family member - can be a bit of a faff with the bill if you're both away at the same time.

We have had ours for about 6 years and we had a few problems trying to get it sorted it turned out it was the post code if I remember correctly we had to miss off the last 2 digits of our post code.

On a separate note can I please just ask a question about the badge. Next year we are going to Spain we havent been in the time we have had the badge am I correct in thinking we cant use the ATMB tag in Spain only France we will need to get a different one?

Thanks Monkers!

So... played about with various options for the post code, all with the very same failed result! Grrr... Rant... etc.

Now... I'm not sure what made me do this... why would I?... but... Under the sub heading "How did you hear about us?", we had been constantly ticking "Word of mouth"... which was the truth!
I simply changed this to "Radio" (A blatant lie! )... et voila... straight in! WTF!

Everything else appears to have now gone smoothly... payment confirmed, initial emails etc, so just a matter of my mate looking out for the postman!

Don't think he'll see him before he heads to Dover on Wednesday though!

Frustrating... but happy days, in the end!

Obviously didn't arrive in time for his departure, so he borrowed mine again for this trip, but it arrived at his home address last Saturday, so all done and dusted in what? 8 Days, is it?

I also had an issue with signing up to ATMB, same issue as Mucker mentioned, and the solution was to switch Browser from Google Chrome to Microsoft Edge.

After doing that, I completed the subscription as normal and used my Halifax Clarity CC, so a ATMB Tag is now winging it's way to me.

I previously had two other Tags, Bip & Go (SANEF) and APRR (Fulli) but the Tags had not been used since 2019, so decided this year to order new Tags as I had been using them for years, so the battery would probably be dead in both.

Of course both firms no longer accept my Halifax Clarity CC, or any CC for that matter, and Metro Bank who I use for € transactions did not comply with the SEPA credentials as required.

All a little anoying, but all sorted now.

Yep Sean that's very kind of you, I have been of the scene for sometime, but now I feel is the time to return, trying to get my French Tag sorted out, made me think, why not have a look on UKS, and that worked.

Thank you bofs, I have been on a bit of hiatus from camping, just life dealing me a curved ball, but I am back in the game again now.

Last time I did Dover - Dunkirk ferry with car + trailer was June 2018 cost then £148 and June this year is £252 which is quite an impressive increase, Eurotunnel are asking £450 which makes the ferry look like a bargain !
