Can I please ask, is anyone going to the Netherlands soon, or into Europe?

I have recently purchased a 2 year old Karsten tent package but find the wrong Rain Awning zip has been fitted to the front of the Comfort Awning at time of manufacture (see pic), so it's impossible to use both at the same time.
I know Karsten tent warranties are not transferable, but James at Camping Travel Store has very kindly contacted Karsten in the Netherlands, who have agreed to fit correct zips free of charge, since this is clearly a manufacturing error, not a fault which has developed.

James says he can facilitate return carriage but not outward, and there's the problem: to send this canvas to the Netherlands (not a huge box as no poles need go back), it has to go through customs and the recipient (Karsten.nl) needs to pay import fees and VAT, despite that it will then be coming back to the UK. They haven't agreed to this. Furthermore, the customs declaration needs to include new value of goods (and Ive no idea what this is without poles) and duties must be paid by recipient on the combined value of goods plus carriage and insurance. It basically makes Karsten's offer to amend the zip unachievable.

It seems the only way to take Karsten up on their offer is to send the parcel from within the EU. We hope to go to France in May, but that's 3 months away and I've been told it might be some months until Karsten are able to return the canvas, so it would probably negate use of the tent awnings for this year.

Which brings me back to my original question: is anyone going to the Netherlands shortly, or to Europe, and might you consider posting this parcel on my behalf please?

It's going (hopefully!) to:

Karsten Tenten

De Factorij 9,

1689 AK

Zwaag,

Netherlands

Attn: Erwin Glas

If anyone can help, that would be wonderful. If not, it's looking like we'll either have to manage with just the pod for this year, or else see if TVS in Bolton can sort this out for us.

I'd be very happy for you to open the parcel to confirm contents are just tent Awning canvas! I would of course fund all onward carriage charges incurred.

Thanks for reading!

Visiting Karsten and ESVO are on my itinerary when I go to France and the Netherlands, however, that's not until May 2024, sorry!

Otherwise I would have gladly offered to transport it for you.

If you don't get any offers, have a trip on a Hull ferry. £59 return per person, based on two sailing, including two night cabin. Drop off the parcel at a post office, wander around Rotterdam or Den Haag, and then back home again? Combine a task, with a mini-break.

your contract when you bought it is with james, just return the whole thing back to him and get either a full replacement or a full refund, you can then buy the correct item you need

the other way would be to get karsten to send you the correct zip and then take it along to a sail maker near you and get them to sew it in place, which would work out far far cheaper in the long run

What a palaver!!
I wouldn't have thought that this was your problem though : you were sold faulty goods. Let the shop sort it out or ask for your money back.

No, I didn't buy it new so the Karsten warranty isn't applicable so they have no duty to help with this.

but you said earlier that you bought it from james at his shop. that means he has a duty to check things over and make sure they work fully, or inform you of any defects and reflect the price accordingly. it is 100% his responsibility to either repair or refund, not yours for any of this hassle

Your contract is with the dealer and not Karstens. As pointed out it is the dealer's responsibility to resolve the issue and not yours. Request a refund as the goods were not as described. Consumer Rights Act 2015 S9 Under law the dealer is obliged to refund you if they cannot replace or repair the unit even if you bought it second hand as the fault was there prior to purchase.

lidds - did yu buy this privately? or buy it secondhand from a dealer? if it was secondhand from a dealer then they are still liable as its not as described and it would be at their cost to get it fixed or refunded

Bought privately (sorry if I didn't make that clear). Karsten are prepared to replace zips because the wrong one has been fitted in manufacture.
