The Connexion is reporting six new driving laws in France that were introduced on Jan 1, they range from the display of insurance papers to speeding fines.
The new rule which concerns me is the following:
Speed limits
Roads in residential areas without pavements are limited at 30km/h from January 1.
The speed limits for roads in such areas can only be higher if they have pavements with pedestrian guardrails and accessibility features for mobility impaired people.
Personally, I'd like a bit more info on this, particularly with regard to those towns and villages which use gravelled verges as footpaths. I can see this catching a lot of people out.
Can any of the forum members living in France provide a bit of clarification please?
It is as posted if there isn't a proper footpath with guardrails then the limit is 30Kph.
Quote"
In an effort to improve pedestrian safety, particularly in urban areas without or with unsuitable sidewalks, a speed limit of 30 km/h will be implemented.
This measure mainly concerns historic city centers and villages with narrow streets, where cohabitation between vehicles and pedestrians requires increased vigilance."

Yes the Connexion is comparable to the Sun, I do not believe a word they print. and I cannot read all the article as they want be tp subscribe!
rant over.
speed limits in France are clearly marked, 30kph limits normally have ramps at the start othe limit.
what else was in the article please?
I will then ask my French lady friend to find out what she knows.
The quote I posted was translated from a French website specifically referring to changes in the Code de la Route.
It also says that any speed infractions less than 5Kph will no longer get points they will just get a fine.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
