We've used Rosyth/Zeebrugge the last two years to travel to France and we find it a fantastic service, although I do accept that it is probably expensive for some. We have booked through Eurocamp for a 4-berth outside cabin for this year and I think it came in at around £400/500 return.

We like it because we treat it as part of the holiday. We have two young boys (4 and 3) and they love the whole experience of travelling on the 'big boat' and staying in a cabin etc. Rosyth is only about an hour and a half from home for us (we live in Bearsden nr Glasgow), so we can leave at lunchtime and be on ship with the first beer in hand slipping out under the Forth bridges at about 5pm

Plus - I much prefer driving in France. I drove from Glasgow to the Eurotunnel last year when I went to the World Cup, and that took 8 hours on a good day (i.e. the M25 was moving !).

Anyhoo, we're off to Brittany this year so will be on the 23rd June sailing.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

My last quote from Rosyth was £1200! I don't mind the drive to Dover & this years price is £155

Rosyth to Zeebrugge for a France holiday is not a good option really unless its Normandy and even then... And I live in Edinburgh which is only half an hour max from Rosyth.

The ridiculous price aside, it eats into the holiday big-time. Ok some might like the idea of 18 hours on a ferry (yipee!) and make it part of the trip (not much choice really) but for our hols in the Vendee that means either a 12hour drive from Zeebrugge or yet another night spent somewhere-but-not-really-where-we-want-to-be.  I know, serves me right for living so far North!  Might consider it if I had 3+ weeks off though...

This July we'll set off from Edin about 7pm to drive to Portsouth. Sail next morn, France for 3ish, Vendee about 7pm.  So Edin-Vendee in 24 hours or thereabouts and an extra 500 quids worth of champers if you please, lol!  Each to their own I guess...
