But there are hundreds ...
Must be pages long.
Hi Kelper, How's things over there?
The website of municipals actually says there are two thousand...
You're absolutely right! I was going to put 'thousands', but decided that a real pedant would query two as pluralised!
Over here? Sunny, and warm, for a change ... nice run into Donegal on the weekend ... looking forward to continental europe in July and August, though!
This one is 20mtr from the beach and its 10 mins walk from the houses in this picture (in the bay just beyond.
2 hours from the St Malo ferry. link.

Hello Tony, if you want a hard copy, the Guide Officiel lists all the campsites in France, including the Municipals. We don't use the internet whilst in France, but someone else will give you a link, I'm sure.
They guy who ran the http://www.camping-municipal.org/ website died a couple of years ago so the site has not been updated. It's still a great site though.
If you know more or less where you're going you can enter e.g:
camping municipal near Lyon
in Google maps and see where the nearest ones are.
They vary enormously and there is a tradition of tradesmen working away using them (white van men with e.g. ladders on the van roof). Nice to have the climate for that sort of thing.
When I retire I think I might take up that camping municipal website and update it.
We use google maps. It usually shows up as camping mairie. Just scroll about nearby and you will find the site. Local tourist offices can also direct you to the nearest in their area.
Researching next year we have found some nice looking sites in Normandy and as we shall be on foot they are all within 20km of each other. None are near railway lines. One is directly at the beach with a nice restaurant in the village. Most can't be booked which is a bit worrying after a long walk but we reckon they will be able to squeeze a few coleman sans ehu in somewhere.

I've never known a site in France turn away someone who arrived on foot or by bike even if they were nominally full. They may say that you can only stay one night.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

That is reassuring and what we hoped. It would only be for one night. The tourist days will be in a hotel and at a site we will book in advance. Those are the days we have to make the kilometres.
