Robo, we did this journey a couple of years back and it totalled something like 12 hours in the saddle so to speak, though I chose to go via Paris on a Saturday afternoon  ..... never again !

This year we are picking up our daughters from Stansted Airport after they arrive back from a German school trip, throwing their cases into the curryvan and then driving to Dover across to Calais and then to Perpignan ..... hopefully in one hit !! Then a night stopover and on to Spain for 3 weeks at El Delphin.

Yes I think it is possible because we share the drive and the roads are pretty straighforward BUT it it becomes too much there are plenty of Aires to stop in and dive into bed.

The bottom line I suppose is not to take any risks re tiredness, better to get there late than not at all.

Good Luck

No reason at all that it cannot be done comfortably in one go. it's not that far to be honest if hubby is used to driving long distances. Like me and others who like to get the drive over with so he will know when he needs to stop for 40 winks, a coffee or something to eat and a stretch of legs. The scaremongering seems to have omitted to consider that it is perfectly possible and entirely safe to drive the distance in question as long as you take regular breaks. It is of course horses for courses and your hubby would appear very well equipped to cope while others just couldn't contemplate it.

Its the equivalent of me driving from home to Dover but on better roads. I am sure I am not the first person to drive from Fife to Dover in a oner in safety.

In May I drove with daughters to Dover in one and then straight on to Saint-Dizier in the Haut Marne, grabbed two hours kip in the Formule 1 then dropped them off down at La Forge and headed straight back up to Zeebrugge stopping for another hours power nap in the car on the way back plus a couple of coffee stops.

Calais to Millau? a total skoosh!

Hi, the last 2 years i have driven the 720 miles to a place nr Limoge, the first time it nearly killed me, over night following friends with oil blowing out of their car in the middle of winter, coming back did it no problems and the same again the year after but set off early hours of the morning with an early morning ferry.

This year we are towing a caravan and travelling down near to Millau (Riviere du Tarn), it is 870 miles from huddersfield according to the tomtom, if we was tenting i would try it in 1 go but towing a van we are going to stop over taking 2 nights to get there and 3 nights when we come home, should be an adventure LOL!!!!!!
