it wasn't intended to be rude - merely helpful - particularly on info on the country and town mentioned - if you check the links you will find lots of info and maps, I find wiki quirky and helpful and the opening thread states that they have no knowledge of the place.

Just because the people themselves are too polite to correct you doesn't excuse your lack of knowledge and / or common courtesy. How many Scots Welsh Irish do you know that would appreciate being called English, they may be too polite to correct a foreigner for their error - doesn't mean they don't find it insulting.
Although in my experience the UK usage of Holland is simply regarded as yet another 'eccentricity' of the English, right up there with the still frequently held assumption that when 'abroad' it is only a matter of speaking English loudly enough so that the poor benighted foreigner might understand.

As a simple courtesy I apologise for any offence that I have caused on this thread, but still think one should try and be accurate when speaking off and about other people and cultures.

Surely you mean an eccentricity of the British. This pedantry has a way of catching up with you.

As for Holland, and in this case for the avoidance of doubt I mean Noord Holland, we stayed recently at Camping Strandbad Edam and can thoroughly recommend the whole of the area especially if you are prepared to cycle. Don't miss out on visiting the old village of Marken which you can reach by tourist ferry from Volendam (or you can drive or cycle there).

From Edam to Amsterdam buy bus is cheap frequent and quick.

Check out the windmills on the Koggen route.

If you want quirky theme parks try Duinrell in Wassenaar near Den Haag or go further south to North Brabant and go to Efteling at Katsheuvel. A great day out.

Go to Holland/Netherlands and enjoy, it smashing.

nope - English ;-))))
could upset even more more people and say it's them southerners / middle class types that give us a bad name - but my name's probably on enough black lists by now.

Agree with Edam site comment, we often use Deltse Hout and then public transport into Den Haag or Rotterdam [much underrated imo ]. Public transport is excellent.
If you like windmills see:

don't know the koggen route - whereabouts is that?

For what it's worth, have you ever watched a football international when the Dutch are playing and the crowd are shouting "Holland, Holland"? Tells you something?

always reminds me of the north - south divide in england to be honest - all the attention and effort goes where the money lives.
I got my explanation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands from a Frisian farmer, puts a different slant on things

Oh yes, and you will find the Dutch very direct and to the point - and they do call 'UK' 'England' just as much as we call NL holland. Hup Holland! ( not Hup Nederlands!)
