Elizabeth & Mark, that would have been so nice but we have to go mid August. Alsac and the Black Forest sound great, this will be our first trip abroad in the van but Mark's an HGV and has driven all round Europe so no worry. Hope to catch you on a meet (i think you were trying to make new year at Church Farm but cant now). We go on many of the SW meets.

The Black Forest is lovely, we lived in Germany and camped there ( I was in the RAF)_Must go back sometime.

I saw some german registerd caravans in France  this summer, with 100kph stickerson the back-perhaps they have raised the limit from 80?

Of course that may have been for another country?

We had a little trailer when we lived there, and were supposed to do 80kph but did speed a bit!

Without it it was foot down and go!!! ( We had our tax-free sports car then!!)

Speedlimit is still at 80kph. U can get the 100 sticker if the trailer complys certain regulations. This needs confirmation by the office, which makes our TÜV (M.O.T) and only then do you get the sticker officially. (trailers in Germany have their own registrations, have to have an M.O.T and insurance)

In all that costs about 40 Euros, if I remember right. And I think I've seen a UK-registered car towing a caravan with the 100-sticker here along the river Neckar last year.

Wasn't worth it for us, as we 1. mostly tow our caravan outside Germany 2. always have plenty of time, when on holidays 3. the tyres must not be older then six years and our twin-axles are just six years old and look brand new

I'm off to Germany and Austria for the second time this winter.

I would definitely agree with the Belguim-Luxembourg route. It is fast, hassle free and no tolls!!!! France's toll roads may be quiet, but they work out expensive.

Although I'm not takng the caravan this year, I will still be going the same way.

Hi, Mark&Sherry, I have mentioned before on this site about campinp in Metz www.marie.metz.fr  it's a truly lovely site right on the river Moselle and just two mins from the town center, if you do call in have a drink or meal(12 eu for Mimi's speciallity) at the on site Restaurant and give my regards to Mimi & Bernard who run it, just tell them that Arture (that's how he pronounces my name Arthur) and Margaret are well, they really are a lovely couple, we'll be calling in again next year. And I do agree that the Belgium/Lux/Metz/Germany is the best route, you might be tempted to cut across France it will be longer time wise and dearer, hope you have a nice time.
