we went to Grande Met last July for the second time.  This time our pitch was even better - very large, quiet, with some shade and some sun at any time of the day.  The loos etc were still very clean and never a queue for a shower even at busy times.  The main bar got very busy so we tended to use the swimming pool bar which was nice.  It is a large busy site but very well organised.  The shop wasn't bad either - if you didn't want to go to the supermarket it was easy to pick up bbq stuff etc.  We didn't use the restaurant so can't comment although my daughter was very fond of the take away pizzas.  I really enjoyed it and my teenage daughter and her friend absolutely loved it.  There was enough for them to do and so many people to meet.  Swimming pools are very well kept.

Sad tale I'm afraid Squiffy. Many years ago, about 7 to be precise, the little chap used to live under an apple tree, on the corner of pitch  V20. He was a happy little soul, but he did have a habit of wolf whistling at everyone who walked past.

Then one night he was kidnapped by a band of marauders who came from a land far to the north, and spoke with a strange accent. A ransom note threatened that if these marauders were not plied with beer and calvados, the Gnome would be returned. Evidently there was not enough beer and calva provided because the Gnome was returned to the bar, but due to the shock of it all, he had lost his whistle,(or maybe the battery ran out).

After that,Gnome could n't face being under his apple tree, and he preferred to stay in the bar where he remains to this day, (except when he goes on his holidays). But rumour has it that at certain times of the year, when the conditions are right, a ghostly whistle has been heard from around V20.

So next time you are passing through Le B, pop into the bar and say hello. Gnome loves a seize, so you could buy him a beer. If he is on his holidays, you can always "pay one on " for him.

We've booked two weeks (via ferry Hull to Zeebrugge) at La Grande Metairie, South Brittany with a stopover both ways at Le Brevedent, Normandy. Both Les Castels sites.

Can't find any recent reviews, anybody been recently?

Hi,

before we awere tin tenters we went to La Grande Metairie and hired a static. It was a great site, with the Carnac stones literally just over the road.

A decent shop on site, bar, pool, entertainment, it suited us well.

We took our bikes and a short ride will take you down very quiet lanes to the Carnac itself and then the coast.

To be recommended!

Mr U-M
