Now, it does worry me not being able to make a reservation. I'd hate to arrive after a long journey and struggle to get into a site that we had set our hearts on, particularly when it is the summer holidays and also when we are travelling with friends and of course 'we WANNA BE TOGEFFA'. I did notice on my trawling that many of them say no reservations. Is that generally for advance reservations would you say? or can you reserve nearer the time with most?

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

Indeed, many Spanish campsites don't accept reservations (let apart big campsites in the mediterranean coast). Probably, the only thing you will be able to do is to phone them from Portsmouth and ask if there will be room for you and your friends on the arrival.

And this is not only Playa Joyel's policy. Apart from the huge campsites, european tourist-oriented, in the med coast, it's not very usual for us to book when going out camping. Indeed, I am still amazed of seeing how you Britons reserve your pitch with a year of advance. We do that here with hotels or appartments at the beach, but rarely with campsites.

But don't panic about that. Be aware that camping among Spaniards is by far much less popular than in Britain, so it's quite unlikely that campsites run out of places - mainly in this area, where foreign turists don't use to venture in (except Dutchs, of course). Even if a site is full, probably they will have a free pitch in one or two days (better to avoid arriving on Friday). And in the worst case, there are many campsites in the area, so you will have place in one or another.

Anyway, phone the campsite and ask the people there. Surely they speak english.

OK, I guess we'll just have to be brave! Get off the ferry and drive around and see what takes our fancy! We'll have to try to be 'less British' and apply a bit more 'laissez faire' or 'Que sera sera' or some Spanish equivalent and just chill!
Thanks again for all your responses.
