Whenever I've been to Brittany the weather has been mixed. The last time was 3 years ago when the first week was fairly windy and changeable but the second week was much better. I remember the first time I ever went was similar too. And as for the Vendee, I've only ever experienced very good weather (but that was a few years ago now!)
South of the Loire is considered to have a slightly different climate than the north (if you believe the BBC weather web site) and Brittany in particular is more akin to the SW England.
And as for summers getting wetter/worse, 'more intense rainfall events' is what our climate change gurus at work tell us...
