We have just completed 18 days in Normandy in a motorhome, travelling from Dover/Calais and driving across France.

The more direct ferry was nearly 4 times more expensive than the one hour crossing with P&O, and we booked our first and last sites closest to the Calais side of Normandy to reduce travel time.

I think we paid just over £100 for the ferry, £60 diesel each way plus £25 for the road tolls.

Obviously the cost of the rest of the trip is up to you. Some sites are noticeably cheaper than others, and if you buy a decent BBQ you can save mega bucks compared to eating out, which is currently expensive with the strong euro.

We did eurotunnel to calais, 3 nights near St Etienne on a lovely site, 10 nights on the south coast near St Tropez/ Cannes etc. The C&C club carged us £690 for the sites and tunnel, we stumped up approx £500 for fuel in total (inc days out etc) also 2 nights on Municipal sites (approx £40) and food/ drink etc. For a 2 week holiday on the med we thought this was a bargain, although its a 2day drive from calais. We had temps of 35deg most days with few clouds and warm sea water etc etc. the best bit is the wine at 5 euro for 5 lts !!!!!!!!! need to go again soon as the 60lts we brought back is down to 40

We had doubts like you are, just do it, you won't look back, we did 600miles on the last day, it felt like 200 over here.

We will be there again next year. So glad we didn't do the usual cornwall thing.
