Beware....if you enter Switzerland you'll have to get a vignette, this year it was 40 Swiss Francs. So if it is just a matter of going through Switzerland for 1 overnighter, I'd think again, as 40 Francs is a lot of money on top of an overnight hotel or campsite.
We went to the Italian Lakes last year, but started off at Lake Levico first, which we travelled to via Germany and Austria (not on the motorway, so didn't have to pay anything there).

I presume that you have to pay for a Vignette, regrdless of whether you stay over in Switzerland, or drive straight through?

That is correct, unless you avoid the motorways which can be difficult. The vignettes are valid for a year. Don't get to hung up on the cost because if the Switzerland route is the shortest one to your destination it might not be as bad as it seems as you will save fuel. However I would work out all the options.

Thanks for your info. I was thinking along the same lines, that Switzerland, being the shortest route and paying vignette, would probably still be the better option versus longer journey and fuel costs.

Hi pullup, we are staying on pitch 79 (lakeside) from the 19th August for 10 nights. Which pitch have you got?  We have a boy who will be 13 and a girl who'll be 10. Jess48 we'll miss you by a day, save us some sunshine!

We are taking the motorhome,  going through the tunnel thanks to tesco once again, stopping near Colmar overnight then onto Lazy Rancho in Switzerland for 5 nights before travelling onto  Piantelle. Havent decided on the return route yet, may come back through Austria and Germany as we have 5 days to get back.

We are staying in one of the sites own mobile homes.

Not sure which route we are taking, hubbies in charge of that, just know we are staying at mulhouse overnight.

No, we've not been before, it was the website that swung it for us as it looks so lovely and OH has been on about Italy for a couple of years.

Pullup, come and have a drink or two with us. The site mobiles look great and very reasonably priced I thought. We are lucky to have free use of the inlaws motorhome which makes the journey easy and means we can incorporate the switzerland stopover too. The only drawback is once on site OH tends to not want to take it out so planning a big supermarket shop on route and hoping we can get bits in the village and use the ferries to get around the lake. The kids (and me) really want to go to the waterpark across the lake.

Jess48, no not been to Whitemead, everytime I try and book its full, going to try again for next year though. Its only about 45 mins from us so would be perfect for weekends.
