Hi,

Thanks for all your advice, I have opted for Staysure.Co.Uk we have gone for a single trip policy and the Asthma was covered for no extra cost but had to do a medical screening. We got a 7week cover for £73.00 I hope I have selected the right company, you never know until you come to claim, hopefully we won't have to.

Thanks again

Marilyn

I've had good insurance cover from SAGA in other areas but haven't tried their travel insurance - however, I would think they're worth asking.

I found the Post Office to be very good - they ask you five questions and if you can truthfully answer them you are covered.   One of them is about a 'stable' condition which is how your husbands asthma sounds. They have a really nice helpline as well which you can double check with.

I was struggling to get cover for DD because she injured her ankle 4 yrs ago and sees a podiatrist regularly to get lifts in her shoes, so most companies were treating it as an existing condition and wouldn't cover her for any injury to the ankle which given we were going skiing seemed sensible to have but the PO said it was fine because it is 'stable'. They even confirmed they would cover any complications leading to pain from the tooth I had out 2 days before we took out the insurance - even though in my mind most companies would have said that if there were complications they could have been foreseen as the extraction was so recent.   In the end we didn't need it, but I went with piece of mind.

The cheapest way to get the PO insurance was through Quidco - at the time the annual policy for a family was £85 and there was £12 cash back.

Christine

I havent read all the posts as i am pushed for time but i would agree with you Christine that the post office is very good. Tony had a heart attack in Jan and we go to France in 4 weeks time. They went through everything, asked the 5 questions then as the answer was yes to one or more they go into more detail. Basically its costing us £160 for a normal 2 week trip and then the extra cover that tony needs. i know this seems a lot and we werent budgeting for it but if anything were happen relating his heart attack while we are in France everything is covered so its peace of mind. We have also applied for European cards as well.
