We couldn't change to the € at the 'push of a button'. From the time we decided to change it would take 5yrs.

Its quite possible if we had joined the € at the start, less of us could afford to go abroad for our hols this yr, the UK could have become a much poorer country. The exchange rate between £/€ has little to do with the UK doing better or worse than Euroland.

We have become used to cheap European hols in the last few yrs. Now prices UK/Europe are more even. 20yrs ago France seemed much dearer than here, its cyclic.

Whatever country you live in if you have a job &/or the means to go on a good holiday you are doing ok.

If you are unemployed & have little prospect of getting a job then the prospects are much bleaker. Thats how it has been in France/Spain for yrs. Its only been like that in the UK recently.

Hi Karim.

If this Gov wanted us to have the Euro, then we would have it in a flash, don't you worry, 5 years what are you thinking, problem is they like to keep us all in control and the £ is one of many ways of doing that, also as we are now learning, most of the UK politians are all bent as two bob notes, whatever party they belong to, £60000 salary a year and your snout firmly in the trough, they don't care about us only themselves, and we are all stupid enough to vote for them, well count me out for one.

Hi Francais. both Labour & Conservative politicians have stated they would not take us into the € without a referendum on the matter & it is quite clear the British voters would vote against joining the €. In fact this country would probabley vote to leave the EU if given the chance.

If you care to do some research you would find just what would be involved in taking us into the € & it is not certain that Euroland would want us in there anyway.

If you think our politicians are courrupt & greedy, try Spain/Italy or far worse, the newer EU members who we pay to prop up.

Its well recognized by the ECB that the € is too strong against other major currencies & they would like it to come down. A strong currency is no measure of a strong economy.

We already pay to prop up the economies of Greece, Italy & Spain. Joining the € would cause us to pay even more as we would no longer be in control of our own finances.

Hi Karim.

You hit the nail on the head, the Gov will no doubt put the decison out to referendum, fooling us all into thinking we have a choice let alone a say, when all that will happen is that all the Sun readers and closet BNP supporters will vote to keep the £, BullDog Britain and all that, that way the Gov will get what they want, and continue to let the super rich get richer, sorry but the decision to go for the Euro is too important for the likes of me and you to make, it will be a Gov with balls that drags us into the Euro, even Sri Lanka is using the Euro instead of there own currency, to be fair they are are also using the £ and the $, but that dosent help my argument here, so that aside I guess we will both have to agree to differ!.

Wicked Mum !   Read that whhicever way you like. Buy the wine in Vrac much cheaper , and if you drink it from the cubitainer you save the hassle of bottling it.

Best tip is drink lots of.------ the more you try, the better you know. Price comes into the equation, and in general if it is made for "popular consumption" it will be all things to all men, so take the opportunity when in France of trying something you don't know from a vineyard/chateau who are prepared to put their name on the bottle, instead of "bottled for TESCO". A good tip is to ask a local what they drink, because they would be a bit soft if they did n't drink what goes with the local produce. We ve just come back from Greece, and the local wine was Levkas, never seen outside the area, but it went down a treat with the fish and sea food, and was the cheapest on the menu .Never sure what stuff you drink on holliday will taste like if you bring it home.

A couple of names in France, if you like he heavy red, would be Cahors, , which you can find at reasonable price, or Gigondas/Vacqueyras, which will be more expensive, but certainly are not ribena.

Happy tippling.

Last year there was the annual wine festival. They took over the local town. 5 Euros for a glass and free tastings all day long. Luckily we wrote down the good ones and visited the vineyards - came back with a couple of cases of bargain price cotes de rhone. Bonus.
