Hi Vickyb1.

Well France is defo, more suited to camping than rainy old blighty, I always go for the short ferry crossings, then head South, the actual Autoroute is signposted "Route du Soliel", aprox 700 miles South of Calais, you are virtualy guaranteed wall to wall sunshine during June/July/August, just take your time and plan a couple of overnights along the journey through France either using F1 Hotels (very cheap) or using Municipal campsites (even cheaper), enjoy.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

Hi Vickyb1

If this is your first time camping in France and with two fairly young children.  Personally I would not go too far.  Probably not further than the Loire or Dordogne if you wanted something inland or Brittany or Royan area if you wanted coast.  You will obviously have to go in school hols, and the roads to the South and the Campsites are very busy during this time, also it can be very hot.

We have been camping in France for 30 years and there are not many areas we have not been to.  When we started our daughter was 6 and we went to Brittany.  Since then we have been North, South, East and West.  I think you need to look at what you want as a family and how far you want to be stuck in a car and we only live 20 mins from Dover so do not have a long journey in this country.
