thanks Carol for the info on L'Oree. Could the entertainment be heard all over the site? We are on A4 I think so a fair way from the bar etc.

Hi Pager

Yes the entertainment is pretty loud if they have a group on. We could hear it on our pitch which was J2, one of the nearest service pitches to the bar but other nights were quieter. Groups were a couple of times a week I think. We never actually went to any of the entertainment as we prefer a glass of wine outside the tent but the groups sounded pretty good. Mostly  well knowncover songs but well done. We never joined in any activities either but there was always a full schedule on the board each day and we saw lots going on for kids around the site. We went into La Palmyre a few evenings and all the shops and restaurants were open well into the night. The night market is a nice evening out. Finish it off in the best ice cream parlour on the planet, just by the roundabout .The zoo seemed as manic as ever and the Hippodrome was big business on the Friday evening so still plenty going on and lots to do. Hope you have a great holiday.

Carol

Christine, perhaps the biggest problem is that you're trying to combine the use of Camping Cheques and finding a busy site with plenty going on still.  The idea behind Camping Cheques is that they're for use when the site is NOT busy, and needs to fill pitches by discounting them.  This inevitably means that the sites you'll be restricted to will be those where the activities are at least 'counting down' to closing towards the end of August.   I would think there will be some sites where this doesn't apply, but perhaps they'll be few and far between.  L'Oree du Bois does sound like it's running on full steam - so perhaps this is one of those sites.

I'd agree with your OH about the Canvas/Eurocamp type sites - but even they (we've found) tend to become quieter for the very last week in August - certainly in the areas we've been to at that time, even when our sons were small.  At one site at the August bank holiday the site virtually emptied.

I know Bois de Bardelet does lots of activities in high season, but I think you'll find even there that at the end of August things are closing/have closed.  I know when we've done overnights on our way to and from the south,  the shop has been on reduced hours, and one of the toilet blocks has been closed.

Hi Christine

Just seen your post, we are also going last week in august and first week in sept, we are going to a site called les roses, in les sables d'olonne.

It looks like every thing is still open for the two weeks we are there, if not its in the town.

Hope you are lucky with your plans.

Hi

We are also going last week in August and first week in September - our children do not return to school until the 7th Sept so thought everywhere will be less crowded but I'm sure there will still be lots of children around.

We are going to Huttopia Senonches 26th Aug - Sep 1st kids morning club runs until end of Aug and special offer camping is free ! Still got to pay a few other fees but using Tesco Points for Tunnel. Works out cheaper than staying at some UK sites even after fuel and small tolls.

Special Offer Page

Our boys are 8 6 and 5. Taking their bike and the local 'normal' pool (Senonches is non heated natural one) is very close by.

Anybody else with young kids fancy it?
