Re paracetamol in France for any occasion - you can only buy it in Pharmacys - supermarkets/stores etc dont sell it as I found to my cost one year when I had a dreadful headache one evening.

They have just said on the news that most of the deaths recorded in the UK have had nothing to do with swine flu.
We must remember that the so called British press have no news as it is summer so they are concentrating on this flu urged on by the government who want to take our minds of the mess we are in, the expenses row and Iraq.
Remember the bird flu scare. Never met anyonwe who had that either.
Once again I think the media have blown this out of all proportion and us Brits are one of the worst. I work for a GP surgery and its gone absolutely crazy. People are not swabed or tested to see if they have swine flu so lots and lots of people are panicking because they are going abroad so are ringing their GP and telling them they have all the syptoms. The GPs are then giving them a prescription for Tamiflu and they are taking it abroad just in case they get it.CRAZY.
The main criteria re swine flu is "IF YOU HAVE NOT GOT A HIGH TEMPERATURE THEN YOU HAVE NOT GOT SWINE FLU" and even if you have like Val said. in most cases it is very mild and do what she suggested, take analgesics, lots of hot drinks, a glass or two of Cognac and it will pass

We went to France for a day trip on Tuesday. Information was given out on the tunnel train telling you what to do, and info in loos at French terminal. Just the same as here really. Something about dialling 15 if you have symptoms. Didn't take alot of notice as only there for the day, but info will be given on boats as well if going that way.

I would do what I'm going to do at home, take some pain killers, and retire to bed, or a lounger, with a hot drink and a good book. I don't intend to bother a doctor, get it properly 'diagnosed' or think that it will be like anything other than a fairly mild dose of 'normal' flu. For most people it's a very mild illness, actually. Both my sons have had it now, (one swabbed and confirmed, the other with exactly the same symptoms) with an average 'feeling ill' time of about thirty-six hours, and then completely back to normal after forty-eight.
The most sensible post that I've seen on Pig Flu - Thanks Val
Ok, lots of good sense in this thread. We are packing Lemsip etc etc. All our favourite flu remedies and plan to sit it out just like Val said. Unfortunately I have an underlying medical condition that might make "la grippe porcine" a bit more major. A lot more major. Probably not, but it might do and I want to make sure hubster knows what to do in an emergency as he doesn't speak French (doesn't speak at all much, tbh). We probably won't get it at all. We have insurance and we have our EHICs. I was just wondering if they have anything else in place as arrangements here seem to be getting quite elaborate.
BTW, a colleague paid £11 for a 2 year EHIC as he doesn't read this forum or the moneysavingexpert (he does now!). The only place to get it is to follow the instructions here.. Why on earth does the gov let companies resell it?!
There are some differences between swine flu and seasonal flu. As more information is coming in the picture is changing all the time.
The age distribution is different, with fewer older people (45+)getting it. There have been much higher numbers of children (up to 15) getting it than usual.
With seasonal flu you can expect 1.6 - 1.8 deaths per 10,000 cases. One figure I saw had swine flu twice that at over 3 deaths per 10,000 cases.
Deaths in this country all seem to have been people with underlying health problems, though it can be difficult to work out what that means. Details are not released to protect peoples confidentiality.
Sorry I got carried away and posted that without mentioning France. That French poster says to dial 15 if it is within 7 days of arriving in the country. What do you do if you get it in your second week?
