Hi blueexpo97.

Thanks for that, not quite as bad as I thought having a trailer, only the extra Ferry cost, which I read somewhere can be upto an additional £100 return, which is a jip, as the car was only £50 return, with Norfolk line, Dover-Dunkerque, mid july this year, can anyone else confirm what the Ferry cost was this year with a trailer? me thinking I will be stumping up £150 next year.

Originally booked with Norfolkline for £34 return before we bought the FC, phoned them back up and it was an extra £100. Next year we are going through the tunnel courtesy of Tesco. 17

Hi blueexpo97.

I thought that was the case, extra £100 for the trailer, well I hope the ferry companies are reading this, as in return I will be taking a packed lunch onboard and barring Mrs Francais from the ships shops, profits will be down that day I can assure them!, joking apart it is barmy that the trailer costs more than the car, in reality it should be 50% on top of the car price, to take a trailer onboard, even though it does loose them revenue from lost sales, I work in marketing and I can see an oportunity for a forward thinking ferry company, can you see were I am coming from?.

Trailers dont carry passengers like your Mrs Francais who will spend zillions in the shop and restaurants so they pass the lost revenue onto you in the form of higher fares. Ferry companies like cars choc full of shopaholics and so entice you with low fares.

Francais the tolls are set by the height of the unit, I think that anything under 2 metres is still  the same as a car. I have been known to be totally wrong though!!

Francais - we only paid £78.00 return with Norfolk Lines for car and caravan, so it's not always true that you pay over the odds on the ferries.  Keep a look out on here in September time as I shall be trawling the 'special offers' for next year's early bookers.  We managed two crossings at that price this year - and those prices applied even to peak season bookings too.

At the NEC in February Norfolk Lines had a stand, offering a code to anyone who took the information, and that allowed you to book crossings for just £74.00 return for car/trailer/caravan and £34.00 for car alone.

I always post information if I think I'm getting a real bargain - so just keep an eye out on this forum.

Hi Val A.

Superb info, and I will be going to the NEC in Feb, so will look out for that NL stand, if I have not got a decent deal before then, will keep an eye open in Sept, I am registered to the NL newsletter, so hopefully that will help, £74 sounds great, at only more £24 more than I paid for car only this year, the thought of taking a trailer seems to be getting better all the time, and not prooving as expensive as I first thought.

Andy.
