And whilst you're doing the Grotte des Demoiselles, visit the Cique du Navacelles, too - the views from the top are amazing, and the waterfall and river at the bottom is lovely too.  There's a cafe where you can sit almost in the waterfalls!

We were at neptune end of august for 24 nights. generally we had a great time.We loved the position of the site river fishing for husband Dave easy cycling into Grau or to Hyper U. The swimming pool was excellent I swim every day and found the solar panels kept it reasonably warm. Our caravan is quite long and we positioned it across the back of the pitch but I agree only possible with aid of motormover.Toilets at the back of block english style had toilet seats, although. toilets a bit old and a little stained but cleaned every day .I didnt see any toilet paper but its easy enough to take your own. I found the showers clean enough at first glance but the drainage grills were very mucky clogged up with hair and grease after a seasons usage and inclined to be a bit smelly. This was rectifed probably about the time that David Kline mentioned the toilets as they steam cleaned the showers which much improved their smell and cleanliness. There was a paper towel dispenser which sometimes had paper but not always. We did find the road noise a bit intrusive at times (more at night than in the day) especially if the go cart track the other side of the river was open , but this is a busy popular area and most sites on the coast suffer road noise. We were lucky, we hadnt booked but were able to stay on the same pitch for the 24 nights. So not everything perfect but we enjoyed our holiday weather was good and we would probably go back to Neptune if we went back to Agde again.

We went to Camping Neptune at the end of May this year, it's a lovely site.

We had some lovely days out, we went to Nimes to see the Ampitheatre and Roman Temple, both stunning. We also went for the day to Carcassonne. Another day trip was to the Opidum D'Enserune, an iron age hill fort with a really good museum. Very hot there, no shade, so take plenty of water! We ended up laying on the cold marble floors in the museum LOL! Agde town itself is lovely for a wander, make sure you find the buildings with the murals on the walls, they are amazing!

Beach wise, we loved Vias plage, just around the coast for it's peacefulness, just miles of beautiful sand. We also really liked Rochelongue, just along the coast in the other direction, plenty of decent restaurants, and "tat" shops, but not overcrowded -we went on a Bank holiday Monday and there was still plenty of space.

Make sure you walk down along the river to Grau and have one of the ice cream sundaes in the Bahia for us, if you go!

(We found the loos okay, we were quite close to the main block away from the pool, and it was fine. You do need paper though. The pool loos weren't as modern, and were often old style squatty ones, but they were clean.

The only noise we had was from a Youth Club in the village that had a disco one night, but only until 11pm and the noise wasn't particularly intrusive.

We did have a minor mozzie problem, they were particularly fierce when we were there, you did  need to cover up after 6pm or so, or completely slaver yourself in repellent. I got bit to death the first night when I stood chatting to some people for about 15 minutes. The site did do something about it, and their maintenance man went round spraying insecticide on all the hedges between pitches after a few days, after which the problem seemed much less....although we took no chances!

Is the wind a problem on the campsite?

Not really. We had the Mistral hit for a few days while we were there and it wasn't too bad. There are lots of (pine) trees so it's not exposed. Only problem was all these damned massive pinecones landing on the tent!

I don't know how long you are planning on going for, but when we were there at the end of May, the site was full. There were the odd pitch or two that was free for 2 or 3 days, but people were being turned away if they turned up on spec looking for stays of more than that.

Sorry to be a harbinger of doom and all that LOL!

Also, bear in mind that Camping Cheques have lost La Boucanet for next season, which means one less site in that area, putting even more pressure on places at Neptune. Sorry!

St Guilhem le Desert is a "must see" - absolutely stunning.

Pezenas market is also well worth a visit (can't remember what day it's on)

Fully agree, its on Saturday mornings.  Car parking not too easy though.  On our last visit a couple of years ago my grandson was highly impressed by a bloke there playing a saw with a bow.  (Me too as I've never seen it in real life).

I thought you'd booked for Piantelle?

I know there's motorhome parking in Pezenas, and at Cirque de Navacelles - and I imagine there is at many of the others, too - as it seems motorhomes are better catered for in France than in Britain.

One thing for motorhomes, don't try to get into the Auchan supermarket at Cosne sur Loire - there's a sneaky height barrier, and no way to get out except to reverse (and we had to do it in the caravan).  Only thanks to a fellow French caravanner who got out of his car, blocked the roundabout, and stood preventing anyone coming up the road to the supermarket,  did we actually manage to reverse back about fifty yards!

have an option on a pitch at Piantelle but nothing definite as they dont start taking deposites til the middle of nov.

Tbh We think we'll head towards Les Sablons nr Agde then Millau. Might even book it through eurocamp independent as they are working out cheaper than booking direct!

Thanks for the parking info Val and the tip re Auchan, my husbands worst nightmare would be getting stuck and having to reverse.
